The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with the Indian Air Force (IAF), announced on June 2nd the successful test launch of the RudraM-II air-to-ground missile from a Su-30MKI fighter jet, marking a new step in the country's domestic weapons development program.
According to a statement from the Indian Ministry of Defence , quoted by a TTXVN correspondent in New Delhi, the test was conducted under harsh conditions and on a complex flight path to comprehensively assess the missile's operational capabilities.
After launch, RudraM-II autonomously guided itself to its designated target and struck it with high accuracy. Data collected from the measurement systems of the Integrated Testing Centre (ITR) in Odisha state showed that all the intended targets were achieved.
RudraM-II is an Indian-developed solid-fuel air-to-ground missile designed to attack and neutralize enemy air defense systems and various ground targets.
This is an upgraded version in the RudraM anti-radiation missile series, incorporating many advanced technologies developed by laboratories under DRDO.
This project is led by the Imarat Research Centre (RCI) in Hyderabad, with the participation of various other defense research institutions, state-owned enterprises, and industrial partners in India.
Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assessed the successful test as reflecting the maturity of the domestic defence industry and contributing to the advancement of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (India Self-Reliance) program in military technology and modern weapon systems. This is the latest milestone in India's efforts to enhance its domestic missile capabilities.
Earlier in 2024, DRDO successfully tested the RudraM-II and RudraM-I anti-radiation missiles, thereby confirming the effectiveness of the guidance, control, and engine technologies developed domestically.
According to observers, the completion of the RudraM missile system will significantly enhance the IAF's ability to suppress enemy air defense systems, while reducing its reliance on imported weapons.
