During the Workers’ Month – May, one of the activities that workers and laborers in the province look forward to is the voter contact program organized by the National Assembly Delegation of Binh Thuan province in coordination with the Provincial Labor Federation. This is also an activity to prepare for the 5th session of the 15th National Assembly.
Concerns about social housing and employment
At the meeting with the Provincial National Assembly Delegation, representatives of employees in trade unions of enterprises in the province expressed their concerns and difficulties, focusing on issues related to policies and some current social issues affecting the lives of employees.
Concerned about housing for workers, Mr. Nguyen Phu Canh (Hai Nam Company Limited) expressed: Currently, the company has workers who come from many localities to work. Most of the workers have difficulty with housing and have to rent a room, but the living conditions at the room are not guaranteed and the cost is high. Therefore, in the coming time, the province needs to have a policy to support housing for low-income workers.
The issue of ensuring income and stable employment for workers at the present time is also of concern to many people. Union member Nguyen Minh Quyen of the Provincial Transport Trade Union is worried that the production situation at units and enterprises is currently facing many difficulties, many places have cut down on human resources. Therefore, he hopes that the province will have policies to contribute to creating jobs for workers.
According to the Chairman of the Trade Union of Agriculture and Rural Development, Pham Van Quyen, previously, the specialized forest protection force received the same allowance as forest rangers, but later it was cut and not enjoyed, causing the salary of this group of people to not be enough to live on, many people quit their jobs... Therefore, it is recommended that all levels and sectors from the central to local levels pay attention and have a salary policy for the forest protection force according to a special mechanism so that they can work with peace of mind, stabilize their lives, and complete their tasks well.
In addition, some issues such as "black credit" infiltrating and developing complicatedly in industrial zones; cultural institutions for workers; social insurance policies; increasing minimum wages; reducing retirement age for specific occupational groups... were also reflected by representatives of trade unions and workers.
Many recommendations were satisfactorily answered.
Understanding, sympathizing and sharing the problems that workers have faced in recent times, the National Assembly Delegation and provincial leaders have always paid attention, directed or made recommendations to the National Assembly, ministries and central branches on mechanisms and policies to support and create better conditions for workers.
Regarding the content of voters' concern about social housing, representatives of the Department of Construction and the State Bank of Vietnam, Binh Thuan branch, informed: The Prime Minister is directing the Ministry of Construction to develop and complete the Project "Investing in the construction of at least 1 million social housing apartments for low-income people and industrial park workers in the period of 2021 - 2030". In which, a number of solutions are proposed to improve policies, allocate capital, increase incentives, and develop rental housing to remove difficulties and promote the development of social housing to achieve the set goals. This is a specific project, which will be assigned to ministries, branches, and localities to effectively implement. The Prime Minister also assigned the State Bank of Vietnam to deploy a VND120,000 billion credit package to support investors in borrowing at preferential interest rates, 1.5 - 2% lower per year, for investors to build social housing projects as well as support buyers in the coming time.
In Binh Thuan, up to now, the whole province has 72 projects under implementation, of which Phan Thiet city has 19 projects, Bac Binh district has 14 projects, La Gi town has 7 projects, Ham Thuan Bac district has 7 projects and Ham Thuan Nam district has 5 projects. However, workers need to understand that social housing is not cheap, quickly deteriorating housing, but it still ensures criteria of aesthetics, safety, sustainability, and longevity. With the policies of the Government and the province, workers will certainly be able to buy social housing and work with peace of mind".
