Notes when taking the new ferry to Cat Ba Island

From March 1, Dong Bai ferry terminal will replace Got ferry terminal to transport passengers from the mainland to Cat Ba island. There are some notes when using this new ferry terminal.

From the center of Hai Phong city, visitors go across Tan Vu bridge, to the intersection opposite Vinfast automobile factory, there will be a sign to Dong Bai ferry terminal (same road to the cable car station). The distance from Tan Vu - Lach Huyen car road to the ferry ticket station is about 2 km. The new Dong Bai ferry terminal is about 3 km from the old Got terminal.

From Dong Bai wharf (Cat Hai district) to Cai Vieng wharf (Cat Ba island) is 1.86 km, 120 m longer than the old route, travel time through Cat Hai strait is about 10 minutes longer.

The new ferry terminal is 8 hectares wide, has a large waiting room with full amenities, and a spacious entrance. The entire access road area is about 1.8 hectares.

The docking area to pick up passengers and vehicles is 61.4 m long, 35 m wide, with a slope of nearly 11%, and can accommodate two large ferries and one small ferry at the same time.

Ferry running time:

- Dong Bai Wharf: first trip at 5:30 am, last trip of the day at 6:30 pm.
- Cai Vieng Wharf: first trip 5:30, last trip 18:00.

The time between each ferry trip ranges from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the time of day. On busy days, the ferry terminal will arrange additional trips to serve passengers.

Ferry fares applied from January 1 to June 30 range from VND9,800 (for pedestrians) to VND810,000 (for 10- to 13-ton vehicles with cargo). Fares for some popular means of transport:

- Cyclist: 9,800 VND
- Motorcyclist: 37,000 VND
- Cars with less than 9 seats: 159,000 VND
- Car from 9 to 24 seats: 175,000 VND
- Cars from 24 to under 32 seats: 200,000 VND.

People with registered residence in Cat Hai district get discount.

Visitors who do not use personal vehicles to cross the ferry, when arriving at Cai Vieng wharf, can rent a car to the center of the island with prices ranging from 350,000 VND to 1.6 million VND, depending on the type of car.
