According to BGR , a recent survey by Reviews.org shows that Americans on average now keep their smartphones for about 29 months, up from 22 months in 2016. This figure indicates a significant shift in consumer habits, with less than half of users keeping their phones for more than three years.

One user shared that the last time they upgraded their smartphone was when The Batman movie was showing in theaters and the Elden Ring game had just been released, which was in 2022. Although they don't intend to use their iPhone 13 until 2026, after four years, this user still has no plans to replace it. The main reason for continuing to use the iPhone 13 is that it still works well, with the battery capacity reaching 80% and without experiencing any freezing issues during use.

Smartphones are becoming increasingly expensive.

The price of the new phone models is also a significant factor. Products like the iPhone 17 and Google Pixel 10 start at $799, while the Galaxy S26 starts at $900 and up. These price points have led many consumers to feel that keeping their current phone is a sensible decision.
