Vietnam team will not play at My Dinh Stadium for 1 year. |
On the morning of October 13 in Hanoi, on the sidelines of the 16th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Sports (SOMS 16) and the 8th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Sports (AMMS 8), Director of the Vietnam Sports Administration - Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet shared with the media about the situation of My Dinh Stadium and the reason why the team has not competed here in the past year.
“We have a plan and it has been determined that the national teams will compete at stadiums in Vietnam. My Dinh Stadium is being repaired as planned and this stadium is 100% under the state’s management. Not only football, we also organize other competitions such as swimming, athletics… here,” said the Director.
According to the head of the Department of Sports and Physical Training, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has proactively proposed choosing other locations such as Phu Tho, Binh Duong and Thong Nhat for the team to compete, thereby helping fans in many different regions have the opportunity to directly cheer for the national team. "The Vietnam team does not belong to Hanoi alone. We hope that people in other localities can also enjoy the atmosphere of top-class football," he added.
Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet also emphasized that My Dinh Stadium's grass field has no problems with competition standards. However, during this time, the complex is being prioritized to organize cultural, musical and political events under the direction of the State.

Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, Sports Department wants people across the country to enjoy the top football atmosphere. |
“My Dinh Stadium is a national stadium and we always give it top priority because it is managed by the sports industry. Currently, we are repairing and upgrading the infrastructure and the grass. But it is not that the grass is not professional enough to host a match or a tournament there, but My Dinh Stadium also has the function of serving cultural and political events directed by the state,” he affirmed.
The last time Vietnam played at My Dinh was in a friendly match with Russia and Thailand in September 2024. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team lost 0-3 to Russia and 1-2 to Thailand.
In the two matches of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the Vietnam team chose Binh Duong Stadium as their home ground to welcome Nepal on October 9. The return match between the two teams will take place at Thong Nhat Stadium on October 14.
