Maextro S800 received 3,600 orders after one week of opening for sale
In late May 2025, Huawei launched the Maestro S800 luxury electric sedan in the Asian market. This is considered a rival to the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

The S800 is the first car under the Maextro brand, developed from a joint venture between telecommunications giant Huawei and automaker JAC (which previously collaborated with Nio). This model is positioned to compete directly with big names like the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class or BYD Yangwang U7. Just 24 hours after its launch, the Maextro S800 received 1,600 orders, an impressive number for a Chinese sedan priced at approximately $100,000 (about VND2.6 billion). Notably, 70% of the orders came from the highest-end version, which costs more than 1 million yuan (VND3.62 billion).
After two days, the number of orders increased to 2,100, and by June 6, Huawei announced that it had recorded a total of 3,600 orders in the first 7 days. Although this figure falls short of the company's long-term expectations of more than 100,000 units per year, or about 8,300 units per month, initial market feedback from a completely new product from a new brand suggests significant interest from Chinese consumers in the high-tech sedan bearing Huawei's signature. The Maextro S800 is a sedan measuring 5.48 m long, 2 m wide and with a wheelbase of 3.37 m. This size is almost equivalent to the Maybach S-Class. The car has a modern design, the front of the car stands out with a horizontal dual-headlight cluster. The exterior can be optionally equipped with a camera-type rearview mirror. The car is equipped with a rear-wheel steering system - a feature usually only found in high-end sedans. The interior is a highlight of the Maextro S800. The car is equipped with Huawei's new generation head-up display system, accompanied by a sound system with 43 speakers with a total capacity of 2,920 W.
The Maextro S800 has two seat configuration options: 5 seats and 4 seats (VIP version). The center area is integrated with a 15.6-inch main screen and a secondary screen for the front passengers up to 16 inches. Rear passengers can adjust the window brightness with hand gestures. The Maextro S800 is offered with two powertrain options: pure electric (EV) and extended-range (EREV). The EV version is equipped with two electric motors with a capacity of 523 horsepower, combined with a 95 kWh battery, allowing the car to travel 702 km according to CLTC standards. Meanwhile, the EREV (range-extended electric vehicle) variant comes in two versions: a 523-horsepower dual-motor or an 852-horsepower tri-motor. Both combine a 1.5-liter gasoline engine as a generator with 154 horsepower combined with a 65 kWh battery pack for a pure electric range of 365 – 400 km. The Maextro S800 comes in five versions with prices ranging from 708,000 to 1,018,000 yuan (2.56 - 3.69 billion VND). Huawei's entry into the luxury electric vehicle market through Maextro shows its long-term strategy in the field of smart mobility.
With the HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) distribution network, Huawei not only provides core technology but also directly controls the sales channel, which is unprecedented for traditional car brands. However, to achieve the sales target of 100,000 vehicles/year in this ultra-competitive segment, Maextro will have to prove its superior value compared to its competitors not only in China but also in the international market, where Mercedes-Benz, BMW or BYD have a strong position. The Maestro S800 is a bold but calculated step by Huawei in its ambition to become a giant in the smart car industry. The initial order numbers, although not explosive, are enough to show that the Chinese market is gradually opening up to "domestic" luxury cars, as long as they possess superior technology and suitable positioning.
