Maguire reveals his real name.

Defender Maguire surprised fans when he revealed that his real name on his birth certificate is not Harry, but Jacob.

Jacob was Maguire's original name on his birth certificate.

Maguire shared a little-known story on TNT Sports : "When I was born, my mother named me Jacob Harry Maguire. But just three months later, people started calling me Jakey. My mother didn't like that name, so she decided to reverse it to Harry Jacob Maguire."

However, the name change procedure couldn't be done when he was still a child. "My mother had to wait until I turned 18 to officially change it. As soon as I turned 18, I renewed my passport and from then on my legal name was Harry Jacob," Maguire recounted.

Interestingly, just one month after changing his name, Maguire made his professional debut for Sheffield United in the Championship in 2011. Since then, "Harry Maguire" has officially become a household name in English football – from Leicester City, to Manchester United and the national team.

Maguire's story reminds fans of a number of other stars who have changed their names for special reasons. Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had the surname Pigford before his father changed it to avoid being teased, Joe Hart's birth name was Charles Joseph John Hart, while Dele Alli dropped the surname Alli altogether because he no longer had any family connection.

Even legend Ryan Giggs once used the surname Wilson before adopting his mother's after his parents separated. Casemiro's case is even more interesting. Casemiro recounts that when he played for Sao Paulo, the team mistakenly printed his name as Casemiro on his jersey. But instead of asking for a correction, the young midfielder decided to keep it that way until now.

As for Maguire, he is rediscovering his form under coach Ruben Amorim at the age of 32. After being dropped and stripped of the captaincy by Ten Hag, he has persevered and made a strong comeback.
