The three films sold very few tickets, with only a handful of screenings. "The Shellfish Boss" and "Blood Moon Party 8" were released during the April 30th holiday, but failed to attract much audience attention.
"Trùm Sò," directed by Đức Thịnh, is a comedy. While it has some interesting ideas, the theme doesn't quite appeal to the audience, and a poor marketing campaign has caused it to falter from the start. After one month of release, the film has only grossed 17.5 billion VND . The director revealed that the film needs to earn 80 billion VND to be profitable.
The film "Blood Moon Feast 8" has been a disappointing choice, having been considered a top contender for this year's April 30th movie season. While it features a novel dark comedy style in Vietnamese cinemas and boasts many well-known actors and cameos, its storytelling and content may appeal to a niche audience. The project, starring Van Son, has so far grossed 33 billion VND , while the estimated break-even point is around 70 billion VND.
Released after the April 30th movie season, "Underworld Beauty Salon" benefited from the renewed interest in horror films. However, due to limitations in the script and acting, the film failed to attract audiences to theaters. Starring Ngoc Trinh and Xuan Lan, the film grossed 12.6 billion VND after nearly a month of screening.
With the current number of screenings, neither " The Oyster King," "Underworld Beauty Salon ," nor "Blood Moon Party 8" have a chance to make a comeback at the box office. Their departure from theaters is expected to be imminent as a wave of foreign films floods Vietnamese cinemas.
