One weekend at Phu Cat airport, the large formation training flight crew of Regiment 940 - Air Force Officer School is getting ready for the mission of flying a parade at the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.

To prepare for the training flight of 3 or 4 Yak-130 jets in arrow, triangle and ladder formations, the technical force of Regiment 940 highly concentrated on people and equipment, seriously and fully carrying out the technical preparation process before the flight.

At the parking area, aircraft engine specialists quickly opened the tarpaulin covering the equipment, installed a grounding ladder, inspected the aircraft in a closed loop; discharged, inspected, sampled and stored fuel; inspected the main and auxiliary engines and systems to refill with lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, etc.

To successfully complete the flight exercises in formations of 3 or 4 aircraft, the pilots of Regiment 940 had previously been trained to fly in formations of 2 aircraft.

For the aviation equipment industry, the working covers and aircraft seals are carefully checked by the staff; they conduct comprehensive electrical communication to ensure the stable operation of the aircraft systems.

The entire vast airport resounded with the sound of jet engines as four Yak-130 aircraft, controlled by pilots, moved to the waiting line and took off.

Reaching a certain altitude, the equipment is controlled to form an arrow shape. During the flight, the formation of 4 aircraft maintains a stable formation with an altitude of 50-3,500m in the airspace, a height difference of 5-7m, a distance between stable numbers of 20m and a viewing angle of 30-45 degrees, to ensure the formation is maintained according to the scenario and requirements of the mission.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Son - Commander of Regiment 940 said: Since the beginning of 2024, after receiving a plan from superiors, the Regiment has deployed flight training for formations of 3 and 4 Yak-130 aircraft, ready for the mission of performing flights to celebrate the army's major holiday.

For the regiment, this is a completely new task, the first time it has been assigned to carry out, so the unit's leaders and commanders have paid attention and made a very specific and strict training plan.

The first important thing is the selection of personnel to participate in the mission. The selected pilots are all experienced officers, commanders, flight instructors, with high accumulated flight hours, good flying skills, and qualified to work in 4 meteorological areas...

Based on the features, techniques, and tactics of the Yak-130 equipment and the techniques and air combat skills of the majority of pilots, the unit discussed, calculated, and specifically decided on the data and flying techniques regarding altitude, distance, altitude difference, viewing angle, etc. of the numbers in the formation.

During the flight, maintain a large, close-range formation to ensure a spectacular and absolutely safe aerial performance.

After detailed planning, the unit conducts theoretical ground training, proficient flight demonstrations, training in the training room, and agrees on how to handle situations that may arise during formation flights for the pilots, before conducting practical training.

Since March 2024, the unit has successfully organized training with more than 10 flight teams performing in formation. The level and flying skills of the pilots have been continuously improved through each flight team, ready to bring the audience and people of the whole country an impressive performance in the celebration.
