Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has made headlines again with a surprising anecdote about CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Meta CEO was revealed to have invited senior executives to join MMA training sessions.

This is one of the interesting stories revealed in the upcoming book by Nick Clegg, former president of global affairs at Meta. Fast Company commented that the book has a "bland" style, but contains "surprising anecdotes", including the story of Clegg sparring with his deputy Joel Kaplan.

According to Clegg, during a management meeting, Zuckerberg gathered some of Meta's top executives for a MMA workout. Kaplan, who later took over from Clegg, performed a mount that Clegg described as "too close and uncomfortable."

Martial arts experts say the MMA "mount" technique is often used to subdue an opponent, which is a sensitive move in an office setting. The anecdote shows another side of Meta's work culture, where competition and physical training don't seem to be limited to work.

Mark Zuckerberg’s passion for MMA is not a passing fancy. The CEO has been openly practicing the sport for a long time, even participating in amateur tournaments and winning medals. On his personal page, Zuckerberg regularly posts pictures and videos of his training sessions and shows off his skills.

The tech billionaire added to his resume by winning gold and silver at his first-ever jiu-jitsu tournament in California, The Guardian reported in 2023. He has said that martial arts training helps him stay focused, especially in a volatile business environment.

The most notable event related to this passion was Zuckerberg "inviting" Elon Musk to a boxing match in June 2023. Although the match did not take place, the "war of words" between the two leading technology billionaires in the world created a fever on social networks.

Not only MMA, the Meta boss is also famous for his diverse interests in other sports, from surfing, swimming, to jogging. Recently, he surprised many people when he posted a shirtless photo of himself working out, showing off a strong body, completely different from his usual "nerd" image.
