Mau Son commune was established on the basis of merging 3 communes: Mau Son, Yen Khoi, Tu Mich (belonging to the old Loc Binh district). The commune has a natural area of 136.04 km2, divided into 19 villages with a population of over 9,600 people with 3 main ethnic groups including Tay, Nung, Dao. This is a border commune, with a convenient traffic location, provincial road 236, border patrol route and inter-commune roads that have been hardened, ensuring synchronous traffic connection. The commune has Mau Son tourist area with great potential for tourism development, at the same time, Chi Ma border gate has been gradually expanded, promoting the development of border trade and trade, services.

In order for the new commune government to come into operation, the Party Committee and the commune government have made efforts to direct the completion of material facilities and ensure a working environment for cadres and civil servants. With the motto of ensuring unity in leadership and direction, the Party Committee has researched and arranged the headquarters of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee in a centralized manner (located at the old Yen Khoi commune headquarters); proactively built additional offices for cadres and civil servants of the Fatherland Front Committee and the commune military command.
At the same time, the Party Committee and the communal government directed to step up propaganda so that people could clearly understand the 2-level local government model, creating consensus among the people. At the same time, they increased the application of information technology, promoted digital transformation, digitized administrative data, contributed to streamlining the apparatus and improving service quality.
One of the important tasks that the commune is actively implementing is preparing to organize the Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term. Up to now, the commune has established subcommittees to assist the congress, completed the draft documents to submit to the congress, and widely collected opinions from cadres and people. At the same time, the program and script of the congress are being developed, and emulation tasks are being selected to welcome the Party Congresses at all levels.
