Generators are in high demand during the rainy and stormy season.

During the recent storms and heavy rain, power outages were unavoidable, leading many families, production facilities, and businesses to seek solutions such as purchasing generators. The sudden surge in demand has made the generator market very busy, with many places even experiencing shortages.

Losing sleep and appetite due to power outages, damaged goods, and even losses of tens of millions of dong – this is the reality many businesses, especially seafood shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors, and pastry shops, are facing. Unable to wait for the power company to fix the problem, many are forced to invest a large sum of money in generators, considering it a temporary but essential solution.

Mr. Bui Huy Dong, owner of a large seafood business on Tue Tinh Street, shared: "For the past two days, the power outage has left me almost sleepless and without appetite. Hundreds of kilograms of seafood in the freezers and refrigerators are at risk of spoilage; the aeration tanks have stopped working, potentially causing shrimp, crabs, and fish to suffocate and lose value. I had a backup generator, but I didn't expect the power outage to last for two days without a backup. I don't know when the power will be restored, so I've been forced to buy another high-capacity generator to power the storage cabinets. If anything goes wrong, the losses will be enormous."

It's not just seafood businesses; ice cream parlors and pastry shops are facing a similar situation. The nature of this industry requires all products to be refrigerated. Even a few hours of power outage can severely impact product quality. Therefore, many shop owners have had to scramble to buy generators as a last resort in these urgent situations.

For households, power outages lasting for several consecutive days also cause significant disruption to daily life. Mr. Duong Xuan Hung, residing in Truong Vinh ward, sighed: “Everything in the house now depends on electricity, from phones, computers, fans, air conditioners, rice cookers, induction cookers to refrigerators. When the power goes out, everything stops, and daily life is turned upside down. The past two days have been very difficult for my whole family, and today we were forced to buy a generator to be able to maintain normal life.”

Currently, the market offers a wide variety of generators with power capacities ranging from 2.3 to 5.5 kVA, running on diesel or gasoline, with prices ranging from 8 to 20 million VND per unit. Imported models are more expensive, costing from 15 to 35 million VND per unit. Despite the high price, during prolonged power outages, people are still willing to spend money to ensure their daily needs and business operations are met.

According to reports, many generator businesses in Nghe An province have seen a sudden surge in customer demand in recent days. In some places, they've even run out of stock and can't meet demand.

Mr. Tien Huong, the owner of a generator shop on Mai Hac De Street, said: “Today, the demand for generators has surged. The warehouse is overloaded, all delivery trucks are full, and installation technicians are fully booked. Many of our workers have to work late into the night to check and deliver machines to customers on time. Currently, the 4-5 million VND price range is completely sold out, only the 7-12 million VND range is available. Since this morning, our shop has sold about 20 units in the 5 million VND price range.”

Mr. Cuong Lam, a generator dealer in Xuan Lam commune, shared that the demand for generators is even higher during the rainy season than in the summer. “Mostly, children living far away buy generators to send to their parents in the countryside, in case of prolonged power outages. This year, it's only the beginning of the rainy season, and I've already sold 20 generators, mostly small-capacity models for households,” Mr. Lam said.

For many households, investing in a generator is not just for...
"Fire prevention" is not just a temporary measure, but also a long-term preparation. Mr. Nguyen Huu Hieu, residing in Xuan Lam commune, said: "In the summer, power outages are scheduled and people can be prepared. But storms are different; they are unexpected and prolonged, sometimes lasting 3-5 days, or even a week before the problem is fixed. Therefore, I think buying a generator is necessary, like the one I just bought for 7 million VND to feel more secure."

In reality, the generator market becomes bustling every rainy season. Demand increases, prices remain stable, but the supply is limited, causing many sellers to scramble to import goods. Buyers are impatient, and sellers are busy, creating a temporary "frenzy."

However, experts also advise people to choose generators with a power output that suits their needs, avoiding waste or insufficient capacity. In addition, it's crucial to thoroughly research the origin and brand to ensure quality and safety during operation, as generators often carry risks of emissions and noise if used improperly.
