Losing sleep and appetite due to power outages, damaged goods, and even tens of millions of dong in damage, that is the reality that many businesses, especially seafood stores, restaurants, ice cream shops, and cake shops, are facing. Unable to sit and wait for the power company to fix the problem, many people have had to spend a large sum of money to invest in generators, considering it a temporary but urgent solution.
Mr. Bui Huy Dong, owner of a large seafood business on Tue Tinh Street, shared: The power outage over the past two days has made him almost lose his appetite and sleep. Hundreds of kilograms of seafood in freezers and refrigerators are at risk of spoilage; the aeration tanks have stopped working, causing shrimp, crabs, and fish to suffocate and lose value. I had a backup generator, but I didn't expect the power outage to last for two days and still haven't had one. Not knowing when the power will come back on, I had to buy another high-capacity generator to run the storage cabinets. If it were damaged, the loss would be huge.

Not only seafood businesses, ice cream shops and cake shops are also in a similar situation. The characteristic of this industry is that all products must be preserved in refrigerators. Just a few hours of power outage can seriously affect the quality of the products. Therefore, many shop owners have had to run around looking for generators to "put out the fire" in an emergency.

For households, power outages for many consecutive days also cause great disruption in daily life. Mr. Duong Xuan Hung, a resident of Truong Vinh ward, sighed: “Everything in the house now depends on electricity, from phones, computers, fans, air conditioners, rice cookers, induction cookers to refrigerators. When there is a power outage, everything stops and daily life is disrupted. My whole family has had a hard time the past two days, and today we had to buy a generator to maintain normal life.”
On the market today, there are many types of generators with capacity from 2.3 - 5.5 KVA, running on diesel or gasoline, prices ranging from 8 - 20 million VND/unit. Fully imported models have higher prices, from 15 - 35 million VND/unit. Although the price is not cheap, in the situation of prolonged power outages, people are still willing to spend money to buy to ensure their living and business needs.

According to records, at many generator businesses in Nghe An , the number of customers buying products has increased dramatically in recent days. Some places even "sold out" and did not have enough machines to supply.
Mr. Tien Huong, owner of a generator supplier on Mai Hac De Street, said: “Today, the demand for generators has increased dramatically. The warehouse is overloaded, there are no more trucks to transport goods, and the installers are also fully booked. Many people have to work late at night to check and deliver the machines to customers. Currently, the 4-5 million VND segment is sold out, only 7-12 million VND remains. Since this morning, our store has sold about 20 units in the 5 million VND segment.”
Mr. Cuong Lam, a generator dealer in Xuan Lam commune, shared that during the rainy season, the demand for generators is even higher than in the summer. “Most children living far away buy generators to send to their parents in the countryside, in case of long power outages. This year, at the beginning of the rainy season, I have already sold 20 generators, mainly small capacity ones for households,” said Mr. Lam.

For many households, investing in a generator is not just for
"temporary firefighting", but also long-term preparation. Mr. Nguyen Huu Hieu, resident of Xuan Lam commune, said: "In the summer, power outages have a rotating schedule, people can still be proactive. But storms are different, unexpected and long-lasting, sometimes 3-5 days, even a whole week to fix. Therefore, I think buying a generator is necessary, like I just bought one for 7 million VND for more peace of mind".
In fact, every rainy season, the generator market becomes bustling. Demand increases, prices remain stable but the number of machines is limited, forcing many points of sale to rush to import goods. Buyers are impatient, sellers are busy, creating a temporary "fever".

However, experts also recommend that when buying a generator, people should pay attention to choosing the type with the appropriate capacity for their needs, to avoid waste or insufficient use. In addition, it is necessary to carefully research the origin and brand to ensure quality and safety when operating, because generators often come with the risk of emissions and noise if used improperly.
