On the afternoon of July 7, many Messenger users in Vietnam, the UK, the US and other regions encountered problems when messaging via the application. According to the problem tracking website DownDetector, other Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram also had similar errors.
The number of reports on DownDetector spiked after 4 pm (Vietnam time) and remains high at the time of writing. Of these, 77% had problems with messaging, 15% on the app, and 8% on the website. When sending photos and videos via Messenger, users received a “failed to send” message.
Meta has yet to comment on the incident. However, the incident occurred just a day after parent company Facebook introduced a new app, Threads, to compete with Twitter. After 24 hours, the platform has attracted more than 50 million subscribers, with no signs of stopping. According to The Verge, there have been nearly 100 million posts on Thread and 190 million likes.
It's unclear whether the issue with not being able to send photos via Messenger has anything to do with Threads' launch.
