“We notify employees when they join the company and periodically remind them that leaking internal information, regardless of purpose, is a violation of our policies,” Meta spokesperson Dave Arnold told The Verge . “We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in approximately 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information externally, and we anticipate more cases. We take these issues seriously and continue to take action when we identify leaks.”

Meta has stepped up its efforts to find leakers after a series of unreleased product plans and internal meetings were leaked, including a recent meeting between employees and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, where the Facebook boss said he would no longer be as open as before because of leaks.

“We try to be open and then everything I say comes out. It's terrible,” he shared.

After the media reported on the meeting, Meta warned employees not to do so.

In an internal memo sent by Meta Chief Information Security Officer Guy Rosen, he pointed out that stolen or leaked information would cause major consequences, lowering morale, wasting time and resources that could have been used to develop products, towards the company's goals and missions.

According to The Verge, Meta employee morale has been affected since Zuckerberg announced major changes to moderation policies, ended DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) programs, and fired low-performing employees.

It is unclear what information the recently fired employees leaked, who they were, or to whom they provided the information.
