According to Hanoi Power Corporation (EVNHANOI), both the power capacity and electricity consumption of the Hanoi power system reached historical peaks on May 25th.

Specifically, the peak power (Pmax) set at 9:30 PM on May 25th was 6,203 MW, a 3.5% increase compared to the 2025 peak power (5,992 MW). Electricity production for consumption on the same day also reached 125.87 million kWh, a 2.4% increase compared to the 2025 peak power (122.84 million kWh).

EVNHANOI explained that due to the prolonged intense heat and high temperatures, the demand for electrical appliances, especially cooling devices, has increased. In addition, many outdoor electrical devices are exposed to high temperatures all day, so during peak hours, there is still a risk of localized overloading of the power system.

Previously, electricity consumption in Hanoi on May 24th reached 109.9 million kWh, also the highest level ever recorded.

With forecasts predicting prolonged hot weather in the coming period, EVHANOI recommends that people use electricity wisely.

Accordingly, customers should set air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius or higher and combine them with fans to increase cooling efficiency, while prioritizing the use of Eco mode (energy-saving mode) on electrical appliances. At the same time, people should turn off electrical appliances when not in use, turn off high-powered appliances simultaneously, and turn off standby power and unplug appliances when not needed.

ENVHANOI stated that while the peak load in 2025 is expected to fall in August, this year electricity consumption has increased sharply right from the beginning of the hot season. Therefore, pressure on the power system could come earlier, last longer, and be more difficult to predict if extreme weather continues in the coming period.

Currently, EVNHANOI has increased its workforce by 100% and is operating online 24/7 to be ready to handle any issues that may arise.

Meanwhile, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation (EVNHCMC) reported that electricity consumption has continuously set records since mid-May, reaching a peak of 197.68 million kWh on May 14th, exceeding last year's peak by 11%.
