Central region: Bringing the remains of martyrs who died in Laos back home

(Chinhphu.vn) - On May 21, Hue City, Quang Tri City, and Quang Binh City solemnly held a ceremony to send back the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died on the battlefield in Laos.

On May 21, the Hue City Steering Committee 515 coordinated with the Salavan Province Special Task Force (Laos) to organize a ceremony to send back the remains of 10 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died on the battlefield in Laos.

During more than 7 months of carrying out the mission in Laos, the officers and staff of Collection Team 192 - Hue City Military Command did not hesitate to face difficulties and hardships, going to remote villages, dangerous and rugged areas that were once battlefields to survey, search, excavate and collect the graves of heroic martyrs of volunteer soldiers and Vietnamese experts who sacrificed their lives on the battlefield in Laos to bring them back to the country.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 515, expressed his hope that the leaders of Salavan and Sekong provinces would continue to coordinate well in propaganda and mobilization work among the people so that when the graves of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts are discovered, they would be protected, cared for and reported to Hue City to carry out the work of gathering and bringing them back to their motherland.

In the emotion and deep gratitude to the martyrs of the volunteer army and Vietnamese experts who sacrificed their lives during the wars in Laos, the Party Committee, government, armed forces and people of the two provinces of Salavan and Sekong expressed their respect, gratitude and sent the martyrs back to their homeland. Thereby, further enhancing the loyal solidarity, close bond, and great friendship, especially the Vietnam - Laos "forever green, forever sustainable".

Also on May 21, at the Lao Bao-Densavan international border gate, Quang Tri province and Savannakhet province (Lao PDR) held a ceremony to hand over the remains of 12 martyrs, Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos, to their homeland.

In the dry season of 2024 - 2025, with the attention and support of the Party Committee, government, armed forces and especially the enthusiastic and valuable help, both material and spiritual, from the Lao ethnic people in Savannakhet province, the 584 Collection Team, Quang Tri Provincial Military Command, made efforts to search and collect the remains of 12 martyrs.

At the ceremony, the delegations of leaders of the two provinces and a large number of people respectfully offered incense and flowers, expressing their infinite gratitude to the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their blood and bones for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland and the noble international duty.

According to the plan, the remains of 12 martyrs will be brought to the National Martyrs Cemetery on Road 9, Quang Tri Province. The memorial service and burial of the martyrs will be held on May 22.

*On the same day, at Ba Doc Martyrs Cemetery, Ly Nam Commune (Bo Trach District), Quang Binh Province solemnly held a memorial service and buried the remains of 17 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Laos.

Implementing the policy of the two Parties and States of Vietnam - Laos, with the wholehearted support of the Party Committee, army and people of Khammouane province, in the past dry season, the Martyrs' Remains Collection Team 589 - Quang Binh Provincial Military Command, regardless of difficulties and hardships, with the spirit of all for comrades, searched for and recovered 17 martyrs' remains from Laos to bring back to their homeland, Vietnam.

Immediately after the funeral, leaders of Military Region 4 Command, Office of National Steering Committee 515 and Quang Binh and Khammouane provinces buried the remains of 17 martyrs of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts at Ba Doc Martyrs Cemetery.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Xuan Tan, Vice Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee expressed his deep gratitude to the Party, State and people of Laos; the Party Committee, government and people of Khammouane province for their coordination in searching, collecting and sending off the martyrs of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts back to the country.
