Nomad Me: Dream big to do more

Do Ngoc Quoc Thong is currently a name known to students at many schools in Ho Chi Minh City as a speaker. He started his career as the founder of Minh Du Muc Academy with a flexible and adaptable spirit.

This guy was born in a small town in Dinh Quan district (Dong Nai province) and started out as a tour guide. It was during those months of working that he realized he was truly passionate about imparting knowledge. He shared:

- I realized that I was not as happy with my job as a tour guide as when I first started, so I decided to change direction and continue studying international relations with the hope of broadening my vision and understanding of the world .

A big turning point when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, I took advantage of this time to invest in online learning and self-development.

I signed up for courses on thinking, life skills and participated in competitions when the epidemic was under control and looked for job opportunities in theeducation field.

I find myself interested in training and coaching thinking. I currently work as a lecturer and coach in rhetorical thinking skills, participating as a speaker on psychology and skills.

It's never too late to start over

* What was your journey of training to become a speaker?

- I think my learning and training journey is challenging but very enriching. International relations gives me knowledge about the world and global relationships, helps me understand how to resolve conflicts, and also helps me develop multidimensional thinking and critical thinking skills.

But just theory is not enough, I participated in many debate, speech and personal branding competitions. I chose to participate in each competition to challenge myself and have the opportunity to learn from my opponents, receive valuable feedback from the judges. The awards recognized through each competition helped me feel confident in the path I have chosen.

I have always learned from my teachers, some of the best speakers and my own students. I have also been trained a lot by being a judge in competitions, a speaker at clubs and businesses.

Every time I stand in front of hundreds of people, I learn how to control my emotions and convey my message as clearly and convincingly as possible. Each presentation is an opportunity for me to improve my communication skills, listen to feedback and improve myself.

I choose the nomadic journey

* Why did you name your academy Nomad?

- That is a dream I have cherished for a long time, also the result of deep thinking and feeling from the heart. I chose the name Minh Du Muc with the desire to convey the philosophy I have pursued. I here include teachers with their own training and experience to set an example and guide students on the learning journey.

We are also learners, and we see them as companions, supporting them to be self-reliant, self-aware, and develop themselves. We also mean that we will go together and no one will be left behind.

Nomadism is about adaptability and flexibility. The Academy will always operate in the spirit of movement, change and risk taking. We are not afraid of newness and difference, always ready to connect anywhere to home.

I spend a lot of time reading books as a way to self-study and research in parallel with attending courses on thinking, life skills and psychology. Learning is a never-ending process that brings us new lessons every day.

* What do you expect from this first startup project?

- We choose the philosophy of synergy, which means that both teachers and students will learn, practice and develop together. Thanks to that, we can empathize and listen to each other, help each other progress and achieve open thinking. The academy's mission is nothing more than equipping students with self-aware thinking with the motto "love people - love the profession - love the people".

I believe that knowledge alone is not enough, but we need to develop love for people, work and country. The core value we aim for is that everything originates from love, striving to be kind in everything, anytime and anywhere, choosing the attitude of "forgetting yourself, knowing yourself, being yourself, keeping yourself".

That orientation gives me the belief that this is not only a place to train skills and thinking but also to nurture love and gratitude for life, family and country. I hope to contribute to creating a sustainable learning and development community, together building a better future.

* Where are you in your startup project?

- At the academy, I take on the role of a leader but also a companion to the students. I want each training program to be practical and profound, helping students gain solid knowledge and develop comprehensively in personality and thinking.

To be able to do what I want, I will continue to research, teach, participate in educational activities and will have to study further. I hope to bring courses on critical thinking and public speaking skills so that students can improve their self-awareness and self-development.

The future direction is to form learning promotion clubs, connecting like-minded people to spread positive values in both schools and businesses.

In the sharing content, we told students about "national quintessence" as a way to arouse pride and patriotism through sharing knowledge of history, culture and core values of the nation, towards a strong and united community.
