New collaborative spaces stemming from complementary advantages.

Recently, a delegation from the UAE Embassy in Vietnam, led by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Dr. Bader Abdulla Almatrooshi, conducted a survey and working visit to Dak Lak province to explore potential and investment cooperation opportunities in various fields.

The delegation conducted on-site surveys of many potential areas in both the East and West of the province, such as: Bai Goc port in the South Phu Yen Economic Zone - an area assessed to have the potential for developing a deep-water port and a large-scale logistics center; and explored the possibility of developing resort tourism and high-end services associated with the coastal landscape advantages at locations such as Vung Ro, Ganh Den, and Ganh Da Dia.

In the western region, the delegation surveyed agricultural processing businesses, cold storage systems, and export packaging facilities serving the international market; visited coffee and fruit growing areas, and high-quality agricultural cooperative models.

The survey trip is considered a significant milestone, opening up prospects for substantive cooperation between Dak Lak and UAE businesses and investors in the future. According to Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Dang Thi Thuy, the UAE is seen as an important gateway for Dak Lak agricultural products to access the vast Halal market in the Middle East.

However, to meet the demands of this market, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers need to standardize production processes, establish planting area codes, and improve product quality. The province will support the development of production models linked to value chains to form large-scale, consistent-quality raw material areas, enabling deeper participation in the global supply chain.

Meanwhile, Tran Dinh Trong, Director of the Ea Tu Fair Agricultural Service Cooperative, affirmed that the locality currently has many high-quality coffee varieties, 4-star OCOP products, and typical rural industrial products. Expanding trade connections with the UAE and the Middle East region will significantly contribute to promoting and enhancing the brand value of Buon Ma Thuot coffee in the international market.

"Dak Lak is committed to creating favorable conditions for UAE investors during the process of researching and implementing projects; at the same time, it will strengthen connections and promote cooperation to soon realize opportunities, contributing to making the relationship between Dak Lak and UAE partners increasingly deeper, more practical and effective" - ​​Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet.

According to Ambassador Bader Almatrooshi, the UAE market currently has a huge demand for Dak Lak's agricultural products, especially coffee and fruits, but export turnover remains modest and there is ample room for growth. The Ambassador affirmed that the UAE will support connections to promote the export of the province's key products; and at the same time, introduce and encourage businesses in the energy, transportation, and logistics sectors to invest in the locality.

From potential to expectations of substantive cooperation.

The UAE is currently Vietnam's first comprehensive partner in the Middle East region, possessing strengths in finance, technology, logistics, and international investment. Economic relations between the two countries are growing positively, especially after the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), opening up many opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, and logistics. Many large UAE corporations are operating in Vietnam, and Emirates and Etihad flights to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang contribute to boosting trade, tourism, and investment connections between the two countries.

In this context, Dak Lak is considered to have significant potential for cooperation with UAE partners thanks to its advantages in large-scale agriculture, renewable energy, logistics, and processing industries. The locality is orienting its development towards high-tech agriculture linked to deep processing, logistics, and digital transformation – areas that align with the strengths and cooperation needs of the UAE.

During a meeting with the delegation from the UAE Embassy in Vietnam, Dak Lak province proposed cooperation directions based on three main pillars: energy security, food security, and green economic development linked to digital transformation. In the energy sector, the province aims to coordinate research and development of the coastal deep-water port area into a regional energy storage and distribution center; and to attract investment in wind, solar, and biomass power projects. In the agricultural sector, the province hopes to build a supply chain of high-quality Halal agricultural products and food to serve the Middle Eastern market.

Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, Do Huu Huy, emphasized that the visit and working trip of the UAE Embassy delegation to Vietnam is of great significance in the context of the strong development of friendly and cooperative relations between Vietnam and the UAE. Dak Lak wishes to promote cooperation with the UAE in a substantive, effective, and sustainable manner; and is always ready to accompany and create favorable conditions for cooperation ideas to become a reality soon.

“The locality is actively preparing a list of key projects along with many preferential policies to attract UAE businesses to consider investing. At the same time, we are sending a delegation of officials to attend the upcoming 6th Session of the Vietnam-UAE Intergovernmental Committee to strengthen connections, boost product exports, and promote investment in areas where the locality has strengths,” affirmed Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Do Huu Huy.
