Today, July 3, at Tan Long Hamlet, Vinh Tuong Commune, Vi Thuy District, Hau Giang Province, Tan Long Cooperative coordinated with Net Zero Carbon Joint Stock Company and BSB Nanotech Joint Stock Company to summarize the rice growing model to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The rice growing model to reduce greenhouse gas emissions was implemented in the summer-autumn crop (OM 18 rice variety), with an area of about 4.2 hectares at Tan Long Cooperative, of which 1 hectare was used as a control field.
Accordingly, when implementing the greenhouse gas emission reduction rice model, farmers strictly follow the 9 stages of the smart rice cultivation process and are monitored and managed by satellites. After more than 3 months of implementation, the model is ready for harvest.

According to preliminary assessments by implementing units, the model has brought many positive effects to farmers. Specifically, rice yield reached nearly 8 tons/ha, after deducting investment costs (about 21 million VND/ha), the profit was more than 36 million VND/ha.
For the control field grown using the traditional method, the rice yield reached nearly 6 tons/ha. After deducting investment costs (more than 24 million VND/ha), the profit was nearly 20 million VND/ha.
Thus, the yield in the model is 2 tons higher than the control field, helping farmers earn an additional 15 million VND/ha or more. Visiting the model, many farmers, cooperatives and local authorities said that this is an "unimaginable" income level.
In addition to increasing productivity, reducing investment costs, and increasing profits, farmers participating in the rice growing model to reduce greenhouse gas emissions have another source of income.

Mr. Pham Minh Cuong from Net Zero Carbon Joint Stock Company said: "Participating in the implementation of the model, the company supports farmers in making emission reduction reports and the company will be the unit that purchases emission reduction reports that Spiro Carbon Company measures from the satellite system".
In similar models implemented in other localities (where rice had been harvested before), according to Mr. Cuong, in addition to reducing investment costs and increasing productivity, people also benefit from a reported reduction in carbon emissions measured at 3.5-4 tons/ha.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thich - Director of Tan Long Cooperative said that the cooperative is piloting a rice growing model to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The model has helped reduce costs by 30% (reducing fertilizer, pesticides, seeds (using 80kg/ha), water,...) and increase from 100-200 VND/kg when selling rice.
In particular, the model follows the alternating flooding and drying process so the rice roots go very deep into the ground instead of spreading out as before. Therefore, the rice plants are limited to falling over as much as possible.
"In the past, we only sold rice, but now we can also sell emission reduction reports. After the harvest is finished today, in the next few days, we will have an accurate report on the amount of emissions," said Mr. Thich.
The Director of Tan Long Cooperative emphasized that in the future, the greenhouse gas emission reduction rice model that businesses are investing in will develop larger and stronger.
