Although there was no opportunity to participate in the performances on the Mid-Autumn Festival as planned, Lan Huong and the children in Hong Quang village, Xich Tho commune (Nho Quan) did not feel regretful. According to her, this is also a Mid-Autumn Festival full of love. Lan Huong said: In the past few days, witnessing many children in the mountains and in her hometown having to live in poverty, hardship, even becoming orphans in a moment due to the terrible devastation of floods, I was very moved and sympathetic. We feel very lucky because our hometown was not affected much. Instead of the bustling singing performances, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, we were guided by the teachers to make cakes, star lanterns... to give to children in the flooded areas of our hometown.
Secretary of the Youth Union of Xich Tho commune, Hoang Thi Thanh, said: During the recent flood, Xich Tho commune was also greatly affected, including Quyet Thang village which was deeply flooded and isolated for many days. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, instead of organizing concentrated activities like previous years, the commune has a policy of organizing a full moon festival in residential areas. The activities are organized compactly, reducing the number of art programs and focusing on meaningful activities such as: breaking the cake, giving gifts to encourage learning for children, especially children in difficult circumstances...
In particular, the children will support the children affected by floods through practical and meaningful activities such as joining hands to contribute, making star lanterns, making cakes, etc. to give to the children in Quyet Thang village. I believe that, although we cannot enjoy a full moon season, in the children's minds, it will always be a touching image, a valuable lesson.
In Yen Khanh district, the preparation for the Mid-Autumn Festival this year is also full of emotions and meanings. Ms. Hai Minh (Yen Ninh town) said: The Mid-Autumn Festival has many meanings of family reunion. This is an occasion for the whole family to reunite, gather and share the joys and sorrows in life. Each family will spend a lot of time with their children, giving them star lanterns and trays of food with full of autumn fruits.
However, there are still disadvantaged children, orphans, disabled children... who lack the care of their families due to their circumstances. This year, many places have been affected by natural disasters and floods, so many children have had to spend a season with an incomplete moon... Therefore, on the occasion of this year's Mid-Autumn Festival, I encourage my children to do small tasks to join hands with the community to send love to disadvantaged children and children in flood-affected areas.
I encourage my children to participate in these gifts, such as making cakes and lanterns to give to the children; each person has a step, from kneading dough, making fillings, molding and waiting for the first batch of cakes to come out of the oven. When making cakes, I tell my children about the hardships of children in the mountains, the loneliness of those who lack the warmth of family... therefore, the cakes given away are also a message of love, sympathy, and encouragement for the children to strive to excel.
Comrade Nguyen Van Khue, Secretary of Yen Khanh District Youth Union, said: This year, following the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the organization of Mid-Autumn Festival activities for children has also changed to suit the actual situation. Accordingly, Mid-Autumn Festival activities in the district will be held in residential areas. Although many cultural, artistic, sports activities have been cut compared to previous years, children still feel the warmth and meaning of the full moon festival.
In particular, towards the people in the flood-hit areas, the District Youth Union has directed the Youth Unions of communes and towns to propagate and educate children to better understand compassion, sharing and caring for people in difficulty and misfortune through activities such as donating books, clothes, school supplies, etc. In the coming time, the District Youth Union will organize a charity trip, bringing love and meaningful gifts from the youth and children of the district to the people in the mountainous areas heavily affected by natural disasters.
These days, the staff of the Provincial Red Cross Society are also busy connecting with organizations and individuals with kind hearts to prepare gifts for children in especially difficult circumstances so that they can have a meaningful and fulfilling Mid-Autumn Festival. Recently, the Provincial Red Cross Society has connected with a number of sponsors to organize a program to give Mid-Autumn Festival gifts to students in difficult circumstances in localities in flood-hit areas.
Through the connection of the Provincial Red Cross Society, the Media Club, Ninh Binh High School - Bac Lieu presented 170 gifts to children in Ngoc Nhi village, Gia Thuy commune - an area heavily affected by floods. Dang Phuong Anh, a student of class 12A5, Head of the Media Club, Ninh Binh High School - Bac Lieu said: This is a trip that brings many emotions to us.
At this time last year, children were bustling in the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere. But this year, due to storms and floods, they suffered more. However, I believe that children in flooded areas will not be alone because they always have the love, sharing and care of the community. This trip left me with many valuable lessons in life.
Along with the focus on children in flood-hit areas, these days, all levels, sectors, organizations and unions in the province also pay special attention and care to children in difficult circumstances during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
According to statistics from the authorities, in the province there are about 3,000 children in special circumstances such as orphans, abandoned children; disabled children, children infected with HIV/AIDS; children with serious illnesses or illnesses requiring long-term treatment from poor and near-poor households.
On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival every year, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Provincial Youth Union, and the Department of Education and Training develop plans and have documents guiding units and localities to pay attention to directing and organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival for children in a safe, economical, and healthy way through cultural activities, sports, folk games, and full moon festivals... suitable to actual conditions.
In particular, poor children and children in difficult circumstances always receive the attention of provincial leaders, departments, branches, organizations and kind-hearted people. Gifts given directly to them, cultural programs in which they are the main actors... have contributed to bringing them a warm, full and happy Mid-Autumn Festival.
This year's Mid-Autumn Festival takes place in a special context, many northern mountainous provinces in general, and some localities in our province in particular, are struggling to overcome the consequences of natural disasters. In the face of the loss of lives and property of our people, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a Plan on organizing the Mid-Autumn Festival in 2024 to suit the new situation.
Accordingly, based on the actual situation, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival is organized appropriately on the basis of ensuring safety, economy, substance, not ostentation, formality, especially in areas affected by floods. The programs are also organized concisely, reducing the number of performances and entertainment activities.
The focus will be on reading the letter from the General Secretary and President to children; giving priority to giving gifts to children in special circumstances, children from poor households, near-poor households, children from ethnic minority areas, remote areas and areas affected by natural disasters, storms and floods; mobilizing contributions and sharing from children, families and communities so that children in flood-affected areas can soon return to school and stabilize their lives...
These activities will be valuable lessons, contributing to educating and fostering the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and mutual assistance for children. Hopefully, with the feelings, love and willingness to share of the people in general, and of the teenagers and children of Ninh Binh province in particular, it will contribute to sharing the losses and lighting up hope in the places where storms and floods have passed.
