Ha Tinh male student shares the secret to becoming valedictorian of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted - Nghe An

(Baohatinh.vn) - With 20/20 points in Math, student Vo Trong Khai (born 2007, 9E class student, Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh) became the only candidate to achieve a perfect score in the entrance exam to the specialized Math class - Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School (Nghe An).

In the recent entrance exam for 10th grade at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School ( Nghe An ), Vo Trong Khai achieved a total score of 57.6 (Mathematics 9.5; Literature 8.5; English 9.6; specialized Mathematics 20 points (before applying the 1.5 weighting factor).

In particular, with a perfect score of 20/20 in the specialized subject of Mathematics, Khai excelled, becoming one of the five candidates to achieve a perfect score in the specialized subject and the only candidate to achieve a perfect score in the entrance exam for the specialized Mathematics class at this prestigious school (the other four students went to the specialized Computer Science class).

Khải was born in the coastal area of ​​Xuân Hội (Nghi Xuân) into a family where his parents were involved in business. From a young age, he was passionate about mathematics and nurtured the dream of studying at Phan Bội Châu Specialized High School.

His family has always been a source of encouragement and support for Khai throughout his studies.

Khải confided: “I greatly admire many alumni of Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, and I often research information about the school. Since entering middle school, I have set a goal to get into the specialized math class at this school; therefore, during my studies, I studied math with passion and dedication. Because I am a student from out of town, to be eligible to attend the school, I had to submit an application and complete some other procedures.”

Khải was the only candidate to achieve a perfect score on the entrance exam for the specialized Mathematics class at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted.

Throughout his studies, despite his passion for and preference for mathematics, Khai always balanced his time between subjects. As a result, he excelled in all subjects.

“Every day, I dedicate half my time to studying Math and the other half to other subjects. I always complete my school assignments first before studying advanced textbooks and doing online practice tests. Besides class time, I take extra classes with my subject teachers and study independently at home. When I encounter a difficult problem, I ask my teachers for advice or discuss it with my classmates to find the best solution. In addition, I spend more than an hour each day playing sports to relieve stress and continue pursuing my passion,” Khai shared about his study methods.

Khải has won numerous awards in mathematics competitions.

One study secret that Khai revealed is that he actively participates in many competitions to gain experience and hone his test-taking skills. Starting to participate in competitions in elementary school and gradually increasing the frequency in middle school, Khai has achieved many successes in major intellectual competitions such as: a gold medal at the MYTS Young Mathematicians' Talent Search Competition in 2019, gold medals at the AMO Competition in 2019 and 2021, a gold medal at the SEAMO Competition in 2019, a silver medal at the 7th Iranian Geometry Olympiad in 2020, and first prize at the Provincial Excellent Student Competition in Mathematics in 2021-2022…

Khải shared: “Besides the awards, the most valuable thing that the competitions have given me is experience and test-taking skills. Through many competitions, I have honed my skills, become familiar with various question types, and am no longer affected by psychological factors when entering the exam. In addition, I have also made many friends from other provinces and cities through the competitions to exchange ideas about studying.”

From a young age, Khai was passionate about mathematics and dreamed of studying at Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School.

Mr. Vo Van Quyet, Khai's father, said: "Khai is fortunate to study at Nguyen Trai Secondary School with a team of excellent, experienced teachers who care deeply about their students. My wife and I are both in business, so we mainly support our son emotionally rather than providing much academic assistance. We often encourage him to try his best, but we don't put pressure on him and always support and respect his decisions. In daily life, we always teach him about the bond between family members so that he can share everything with his parents and older brother."

Every day, Khai spends about an hour playing badminton with his parents.

The results Khai achieved in the exam are a source of joy and pride for his family and school, and a well-deserved reward for his hard work and effort. It is known that, with his outstanding academic record, Khai was also eligible for direct admission to the High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences - Vietnam National University, Hanoi. However, he chose to attend Phan Boi Chau High School for Gifted Students, fulfilling his dream.

"My test scores are just the beginning, a motivation for me to keep trying. The road ahead is still very long, and I need to work even harder," Khai expressed.
