Hwahongmun Gate, Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

Hwaseong Fortress encircles the central area of Suwon, one of the major cities in Gyeonggi-do Province. The fortress symbolizes King Jeongjo's filial piety towards his father. Built between 1794 and 1796, the fortress features a highly scientific architectural design, with four gates facing east, west, south, and north, and the Sumun Gate with its seven arches. The fortress walls are constructed of Seokjae and Jeondo bricks. The holes between the bricks are just large enough to fit the muzzles of guns, arrows, or long spears, intended to guard against attacks. The fortress was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

Heyri Art Village - Paju

Heyri Art Village – Paju

The people of Gyeonggi are very proud of Heyri Village, where the residents are mostly artists, with unique, self-designed houses. Nearly 500 artists working in various art forms have gathered here. They have opened studios, galleries, museums, and cafes where visitors can explore and experience their art. Currently, there are over 100 galleries showcasing international folk musical instruments, toy museums, butterfly museums, stamp museums, film poster museums, concert halls, bookstores, and traditional food shops. Surely anyone working in the arts would dream of living in this idyllic environment, especially in a space filled with greenery.

DMZ (Demilitarized Zone)

DMZ ( Demilitarized Zone)

The DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is likely to be a place of great interest and deep empathy for Vietnamese tourists. This border area between South Korea and North Korea, stretching 248 km long and 4 km wide at the 38th parallel, symbolizes both war and peace, division and reunification. After passing through strict checkpoints, visitors can descend to visit one of North Korea's infiltration tunnels and ascend an observation deck at the military base to get a panoramic view of the demilitarized zone, where flags from both sides are displayed. Visitors can even visit Panmunjeon, where negotiations between the two sides took place. Because the area has been tightly controlled for over fifty years, prohibiting all civilian activity, it has become a superb biological reserve with diverse wildlife, creating exceptional tourism potential.

Dorasan Peace Park Memorial Park

Dorasan Peace Park Memorial Park

Right next to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is a large park with a complex of monuments and professional exhibition halls. Visitors are invited to draw commemorative designs on ceramic tiles, which will be used to build a memorial wall, symbolizing the hope for lasting peace.

A day exploring Gyeonggi wouldn't be complete without sampling the region's specialties. Pocheon's famous grilled ribs are a delightful way to end your trip. The tender, flavorful grilled meat, made from beef, pork, or even chicken ribs, paired with a superb sauce, will satisfy even the most discerning palate. And a glass of traditional Makgeolli rice wine will enhance the warm and captivating flavor of Gyeonggi.
