Recently, a report from South Korea claimed that Samsung will only bring major technological changes to the foldable screen for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Z Flip8. Therefore, the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 will not receive many upgrades compared to their predecessors.
There are also reports that Samsung plans to sell 6 million Galaxy Z Flip7 and Z Flip7+ units, while the Z Flip8 and Z Fold8 combined will sell 7 million units. If this is true, things don't look very promising for Samsung's foldable phone line.
The source also revealed that Samsung plans to sell approximately 230 million smartphones this year. This represents a significant drop in sales since the Covid pandemic (300 million units shipped in 2019, compared to 222 million in 2023).
Previously, KED Global revealed that the head of Samsung's mobile division had asked the company's engineers to make the company's Galaxy Z series smartphones thinner and similar in thickness to Galaxy S series phones.
Currently, the Galaxy S series boasts the thinnest phones, with the S24 Ultra at 8.4mm, and the S24 and S24+ at 7.6mm and 7.7mm respectively. If Samsung succeeds, the Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 could be as thin as 8.4mm.
A report from The Elec claims the Galaxy Z Flip7 will be equipped with the Exynos 2500 chip – a fact confirmed by an executive at Samsung Electronics.
With the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 expected to launch in mid-2025, Samsung will have ample time to improve the performance of its first flagship 3nm chip.
