The cooperation agreement between the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) with Russia and Belarus will end on November 30. This is a move made in response to Russia's military campaign in Ukraine.

Relations between Russian scientists and CERN under other agreements will continue, Keystone-SDA news agency reported.
Previously, in response to Russia's special military campaign in Ukraine from 2022, 24 CERN member states decided to end cooperation with Russian research institutes.
CERN, founded in 1954, is a fundamental physics research facility located on the border between Switzerland and France, which studies the structure of matter with the help of large particle accelerators. CERN is also the birthplace of the World Wide Web .
CERN is the world's largest research center in the field of nuclear physics, with about 3,000 employees and an annual budget of 1.3 billion Francs ($1.28 billion), along with about 17,000 guest scientists from 110 countries working in its laboratories.
Currently, in CERN's network of scientists there are about 350 people affiliated with Russian research institutes and most of them do not live in Geneva, Switzerland.
The end of cooperation will affect research activities due to the absence of scientists from Russian institutes, but CERN will take care of this. After all, Russia has never been a member state of CERN, but only has the special status of an observer state. The number of scientists from Belarus at CERN is also not large.
