A streetlight on Highway 55 has been out of service for nearly two years!

Mr. Hoang Van Nam, whose house is located right on National Highway 55, in the center of Hamlet 2, Son My New Rural Commune, Ham Tan District, complained: “A LED streetlight pole located right on National Highway 55, in the center of Hamlet 2, about 500 meters from the Son My New Rural Commune People's Committee, has been out of order for two Lunar New Year holidays, posing a safety hazard to traffic on this section. We have raised this issue during voter consultations, but it has not been repaired yet.”

This is the central area of Son My commune, with a large population living on both sides of the road. However, the section here is steep, the road is narrow, and many North-South passenger buses, trucks, and motorcycles from within the province travel through it, causing serious concerns about traffic safety, especially at night. Several serious traffic accidents involving people from outside the province riding motorcycles on this section of road at night due to the narrow road and lack of lighting have occurred in the past. Local residents are also very worried about the heavy traffic at night. Although there are some small solar-powered streetlights in this area, they do not ensure traffic safety at night. Many local residents have requested that the local authorities inspect and replace the damaged streetlights to ensure adequate lighting.

The streetlights on National Highway 55 are not working on the section passing through Hamlet 2, about 500m from the Son My Commune People's Committee.

Meanwhile, the street lighting system on National Highway 55, passing through the three communes of Son My, Tan Thang, and Thang Hai, is currently not standardized, with some sections lacking streetlights for nighttime illumination. Now that these three communes have been merged into the new Son My commune, scheduled to become operational from the beginning of July 2025, the new Son My commune needs focused investment in a standardized lighting system along the more than 20 km stretch of National Highway 55 within its territory. This will ensure streetlights illuminate the roads every night, guaranteeing security, order, and traffic safety on this vital artery.

Previously, the Ham Tan District People's Committee had invested in installing a lighting system for National Highway 55, but it still hasn't fully illuminated the entire stretch of National Highway 55 passing through the newly merged Son My commune.
