Summer of the "little teachers"

Not letting the summer pass by in vain, some students in Quang Tri have started teaching and tutoring English for the children. After each class, the children gain more knowledge, skills and valuable experiences.

Special experience

These days, Le Ngoc Minh (born in 2011), a student at Tran Hung Dao Secondary School, Dong Ha Ward, is busy preparing to organize an online English class to help children improve their presentation skills.

Previously, at the end of June, the English communication and presentation class led by Ngoc Minh and his close friend Truong Khanh An, a student at Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Dong Ha Ward, ended with a closing ceremony filled with laughter. During the program, the students met directly, shared their feelings and showed everyone their progress after the course. That made Ngoc Minh and Khanh An very happy. This was also the motivation for them to boldly organize the next class.

Ngoc Minh said that she "got hooked" on online English classes in 2022. At that time, Minh was a core member of an English club, selected to teach presentation and debate to children. After 1 year of teaching online classes, Ngoc Minh has acquired a lot of knowledge, experience, and skills.

With the desire to share with others, Minh decided to organize a debate class for Quang Tri children who are passionate about English. Following the success of this class, in 2024, Minh opened another online English class to help children improve their debate and presentation skills.

“Unlike the previous course, from this class, I decided to charge a fee, considering it a commitment to parents and children. I will use the money collected to buy books and give them to children in difficult circumstances,” Ngoc Minh revealed.

Also a “little teacher” trusted by many parents, Tran Thi Ha My (born in 2012), a student at Nguyen Trai Secondary School, Dong Ha Ward, is teaching English online to 4 students every Saturday. Having been in the classroom for 3 years, Ha My is quite experienced.

I proactively prepare lesson plans; apply information technology in teaching; integrate games... Thanks to that, online lessons are always fresh and exciting. Talking about the opportunity that brought me to this interesting job, My shared: “In 2023, through friends, I learned about a program to recruit "child teachers" to support children in their studies. After going through the selection rounds, I was lucky to be trained by the center and given the opportunity to teach. Since then, I have maintained this job. I am very happy to be able to help children learn English better."

In Quang Tri, “child teachers” such as Ngoc Minh, Khanh An, and Ha My are not rare. Most of them come to this special job naturally. After participating in clubs, teams, groups, and centers, they have affirmed their abilities and are trusted to teach and tutor other children.

From this initial step, some students have boldly opened their own classes. In the summer, when the burden of books is over, students have more opportunities to invest in their classes. With an open program, the spirit of “learning while playing”, helping each other to progress, the classes of the “young teachers” are often organized very effectively, highly appreciated by parents and students.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Toan, Deputy Secretary of the Quang Tri Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of the province: Ngoc Minh, Khanh An and Ha My are all typical examples of studiousness of Quang Tri youth. Not only focusing on self-development, they also have many meaningful activities to support other children. By becoming "young teachers", sharing knowledge and English skills with their friends, Ngoc Minh, Khanh An and Ha My have contributed to bringing very positive values. "From their work, we hope that Quang Tri youth will learn and be creative to create good models, projects, and good work to help maximize their abilities and contribute more to the community".

Learn from the lessons

Talking to reporters, Le Ngoc Minh said that he, Khanh An and Tran Le Thanh Truc were honored to win first prize in the Olympia category (with the participation of students from grades 7 to 9) at the English philosophy competition for primary and secondary school students - Junior Philosophy Olympiad 2025.

To overcome excellent candidates from many prestigious schools, the students conquered each round with very high requirements for creativity and logic in thinking; accuracy of presentation language; communication skills... "If we had not spent time teaching English to young children, we would have had difficulty entering this competition," Ngoc Minh admitted.

Agreeing with Ngoc Minh, Khanh An said that teaching young children has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is that An knows what the children want, what they need, and which method is appropriate. Regarding the disadvantages, the children must have real ability; gather many skills; love the job they are doing...

Moreover, online teaching has quite high requirements. Therefore, Khanh An and other “young teachers” have to make a lot of effort. They always remind themselves to constantly improve the quality of teaching and learning, helping each student to make progress. That is also the process for each student to perfect themselves.

Talking about the difficulties and advantages of becoming a “child teacher”, Tran Thi Ha My said that she and other students have learned a lot during the teaching process. In fact, after applying to become a “child teacher”, most of the students are trained quite thoroughly by clubs, teams, groups, and centers to be able to confidently stand in front of the class.

During the process of preparing lesson plans and teaching, the children also accumulated a lot of knowledge and experience. Interacting with children who share the same passion for English helps the “young teachers” gain more positive energy. “I feel myself growing through each lesson. Therefore, I am as eager to enter class as the children are,” Ha My shared.

Sticking with this special job, most of the "young teachers" in Quang Tri have become more confident, mature, and grown up. Each of them is happy to work, contribute in their own way, and reap many things beyond their expectations. After a time of diligently studying, from the construction fund, some "young teachers" also join their students in meaningful charity and social activities, contributing to beautifying the image of Quang Tri youth in the new era.
