Apple Blossom Season

Việt NamViệt Nam01/06/2024

The wild apple blossoms bloom in a blanket of white, covering the entire Nam Nghiep village and transforming the surrounding landscape into a picturesque scene. After the peach and plum blossom seasons end, the wild apple blossoms will bloom throughout Nam Nghiep village in Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district, Son La province.

Author Do Truong Vinh will give you a glimpse into the simple yet incredibly vibrant beauty of the cat's claw flower season through his photo series "The Season of Cat's Claw Flowers in Bloom". This series was submitted to the Happy Vietnam Photo and Video Contest , organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications .

Located on the Ta Chi Nhu peak trekking route, Nam Nghiep village in Ngoc Chien commune, Muong La district, has become a well-known tourist destination in recent years. Besides its pristine beauty, every March, the village attracts many tourists who come to take photos when the wild apple blossoms bloom, painting the mountains and forests white.

To reach this forest of cat's claw flowers, visitors have to drive about 25 km from the center of Muong La to Ngoc Chien commune, then travel another 13 km on a dirt road to Nam Nghiep village. The road to the village is a bit difficult to navigate.

From afar, you can see an entire hillside covered in blossoming wild apples like snow. Nam Nghiep village is located at an altitude of approximately 2,500 meters above sea level. The villagers plant wild apple trees around their houses and on the hillsides. Wild apple trees are closely associated with the lives of the Hmong people in the highlands.

The wild apple blossom doesn't possess the pristine white beauty of plum or pear blossoms, nor the delicate charm of cherry blossoms; instead, it has a natural, simple beauty, much like the people of this region.

The blooming of the fruit signals the arrival of spring. Around September or October, the hawthorn berries are ripe and ready for harvest. Local people often use the fruit to make liqueur, honey, or sugar infusions.

This area has the coolest climate in Muong La district and is home to over 100 households of the Black Mong ethnic group, along with hundreds of ancient hawthorn trees. Hawthorn trees (also known as mountain hawthorn) are mostly grown naturally and require little care.

In recent years, each flowering season of the catfish plant attracts the attention of tourists, especially young people, and has become a highlight of the village.
