In late May, across the fields of Ninh Binh province, farmers are busily harvesting the 2026 Winter-Spring rice crop. This year, thanks to favorable weather conditions, the rice has grown well and ripened uniformly. Farmers in various localities have concentrated their manpower and proactively used machinery to accelerate the harvesting of over 132,000 hectares of rice, ensuring a quick and efficient harvest and preparing for the next Summer crop.

A painting of the harvest season.
As harvest season arrives, the golden rice fields stretching from the plains to the valleys at the foot of the mountains in Ninh Binh are covered in a shimmering golden hue. In the early summer sunshine, the golden rice fields stretch out, creating a picture of a prosperous and peaceful countryside in the ancient capital region, which is changing day by day. The increase in mechanization has helped farmers harvest faster, reduce production costs, and make the most of favorable weather days during the harvest season. In low-lying rice paddies where combine harvesters are difficult to access, many families mobilize all their relatives to harvest rice manually. Some cut the rice, others gather it, and still others transport it; the atmosphere is one of urgent labor from early morning until late afternoon to ensure the rice is harvested when it reaches its peak ripeness. The golden rice stalks, with their plump, heavy grains, are the result of the hard and diligent labor of the farmers. The golden harvest spreads across the fields, bringing with it the joy of a bountiful harvest and the hope for a prosperous year of production for the farmers. Ms. Le Thi Nghiep, from Vy Khach Cau village, Thanh Binh commune, happily shared: “This year's winter-spring rice crop is bountiful, with large ears and firm grains. My family planted 8 sao (approximately 0.8 hectares), and the yield is quite good, so we are very pleased. Seeing the rice piled high in the yard, all the hard work of several months of tending the crop has been well rewarded.” Despite the sweat soaking their sun-tanned faces, the joy of a bountiful harvest was evident in their eyes and smiles after months of hard work in the fields, tending to the rice plants. After days of busy harvesting in the fields, the people diligently return to work, drying and winnowing the crops to bring a joyful harvest season to a close. For farmers, sacks full of rice after the harvest are not only the result of months of diligent care but also a source of joy and motivation to continue working in the fields. Local authorities are focusing on accelerating the rice harvest, striving to complete the season before June 10th to prepare for the planting of the summer-autumn rice crop.
