Springtime village festival

The rhythmic drumming of the drums echoed slowly. Incense smoke began to drift in the early morning breeze. The village temples of Quang Nam province had begun their spring festival.

Walking along the ancient communal houses of Quang Nam province today, one can still feel the vibrant atmosphere of festivals. This is a vivid glimpse into the community life that has been preserved for generations.

One encounters images of elderly people neatly dressed in traditional long robes and headscarves, meticulously performing each ritual; young men eagerly participating in folk games; and the innocent eyes of children following the adults into the sacred space of the village for the first time.

The pure and sincere nature of the festivals is the conclusion reached by countless field trips and studies by scholars and cultural experts regarding the spring festivals of Quang Nam province. Festivals are the identity of the land. And the festivals of Quang Nam are pure and sincere because of the very essence of the people of Quang Nam.

Festivals in Central Vietnam are dedicated to the Mother Goddess and the patron saints of various trades, honoring rice cultivation and paying homage to historical heroes. In the temple courtyard, the elders meticulously perform the rituals. As the drums cease, the festivities begin, and at that very moment, people realize that this is the very essence of their homeland that they carry with them...
