On the afternoon of May 28th, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (PC04) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police announced that they had dismantled five illegal drug trafficking rings, arresting and questioning 173 related individuals, of whom 150 have been prosecuted.
According to the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, on the night of May 9, 2026, through area management, screening, and rapid testing, Team 5 discovered a suspect who tested positive for drugs.
Recognizing that behind the illegal drug users were sophisticated and aggressive drug supply networks, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department established a special task force to combat and track down the entire network, following the principle of "following the flow of drugs."
That very night, task forces simultaneously deployed their forces to combat, investigate, and trace the source of the drugs. As a result, authorities successively dismantled numerous illegal drug trafficking rings and branches in Vung Tau, Tam Thang, Phuoc Thang, Rach Dua, Xuyen Moc, Ho Tram, Long Hai, and several neighboring provinces; simultaneously eliminating many organized groups involved in the illegal use of drugs operating in complex residential areas.
Notably, during the pursuit of the ringleaders, many suspects used pepper spray and carried weapons to fiercely resist arrest in an attempt to escape and obstruct law enforcement.
However, the task force of Team 5, Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, quickly subdued the suspects, ensuring the safety of the participating forces and the surrounding residents.
The seized items included a large quantity of drugs, two daggers, a can of pepper spray, and various drug paraphernalia. Expanding the investigation, authorities arrested eight more individuals involved in the case in Dong Nai province, led by Vo Van Sang (residing in Ho Nai ward), operating on the Dong Nai - Ho Chi Minh City route.
According to the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, during the pursuit of the suspects, several officers and soldiers were injured but remained committed to the area, determined to successfully dismantle the criminal ring.
From May 9th to 28th, starting from just one individual illegally using narcotics, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department successfully investigated and dismantled 5 drug trafficking rings and more than 20 branches led by Tran Nguyen Duc Tho (aka Bi Tho), Nguyen Tuan Kiet, Tran Hoang Phuc, Vu Thi Ngoc Huyen, Nguyen Trong Quoc, Mai Quoc Dung (also known as Dung Hong Cong), and Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam.
Team 5 of the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department is continuing to consolidate the case file, expand the investigation, and track down related leads to handle the matter according to the law.
