Vietnamese Muay Thai aims for 2 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games.
At the upcoming SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese Muay Thai team has set a target of winning only 1 to 2 gold medals.
The 33rd SEA Games will feature 18 weight categories in Muay Thai, 10 for men and 6 for women, in addition to two demonstration events: Wai Kru and Mai Muay. Each country is only allowed to register one fighter per event, making the competition for medals extremely fierce.
Vietnamese Muay Thai is only aiming for 1-2 gold medals. Much of the hope rests on the women's categories, particularly with athletes like Huynh Ha Huu Hieu, Nguyen Thi Chieu, Dinh Thi Hoa, and Nguyen Thi Phuong Hau.
At the 31st SEA Games, Vietnamese Muay Thai won 4 gold medals. At the 32nd SEA Games, although Muay Thai wasn't included, Khmer Kun (a sport quite similar to Muay Thai) also brought us 5 gold medals. The Muay Thai competition will take place in Songkhla from December 13-19.
