On October 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Biotechnology Center in collaboration with the Vietnam Biotechnology Association (VBA), the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology organized the 16th Asian International Biotechnology Conference at 2374 National Highway 1, Trung My Tay Ward (District 12), with nearly 400 domestic and foreign delegates attending.
The conference, which runs until October 19, will create a forum for leading experts from research, training and business units around the world to discuss scientific advances and research results in various fields of biotechnology and strategies leading to global sustainability.
The program includes 2 plenary sessions and 36 sub-committee sessions of 16 important topics in specialized fields of biotechnology such as agriculture and food, applied microbiology, medical biotechnology, nanotechnology, biomaterials, regenerative medicine, synthetic biology...

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Dinh Minh Hiep, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the conference is an important scientific event, of great significance for promoting scientific research, developing biotechnology applications to improve medical capacity and disease prevention, ensuring food security, responding to climate change and developing the economy for countries in the Asian region.
In particular, Vietnam, with the climate conditions of a tropical country, the economy develops from agriculture but is heavily affected by climate change. Therefore, biotechnology plays a very important role in the cause of industrialization, modernization, economic restructuring, especially sustainable development.

By 2045, Vietnam aims to be a country with a developed biotechnology industry in the world, a center for smart production and services, startups and biotechnology innovation among the leading groups in Asia, in which the biotechnology industry contributes 10-15% to GDP.
According to Mr. Dinh Minh Hiep, currently Ho Chi Minh City trains, attracts human resources, expands international cooperation with countries such as England, France, Japan, Cuba... The city has invested in scientific research and biotechnology development, such as in the agricultural sector focusing on research, production of plant varieties, production of livestock breeds, ornamental fish and microbial products for plants, livestock and aquatic products, vaccines to prevent diseases for aquatic products...
