"Con mai voi non song" is arranged in the spirit of chamber music, Khanh Ly's forte, but is refreshed with a youthful, intimate breath. In particular, the highlight is the climax in the middle and ending vocals, where the feeling of gratitude is strongly pushed up.
With over 20 years of pursuing a professional music career, Khanh Ly said technique is no longer an obstacle. She focuses on conveying emotions, hoping that the audience, especially the young, will sympathize and appreciate the sacrifices of previous generations. "Singing any genre of music needs to touch the emotions first," she affirmed.
People's Artist Pham Phuong Thao highly appreciated Khanh Ly's delicate handling: "She is smart, knows how to put herself in the role of a storyteller, taking listeners back to the past and then making them tear up in the present. Singing like a spiritual tour guide, very real but also very majestic."
Sharing his feelings about the MV, poet Khanh Duong expressed: "The first time I watched the MV, I was very moved because it was a true story of many uncles and aunts in Hanoi who had previously participated in the battlefield in Quang Tri. My father was also a reporter before, he participated in the battlefields in Quang Tri. Khanh Ly's MV truly depicted the brutality of war but with a very beautiful and gentle voice."
Commenting on the MV, People's Artist Quoc Hung said that the combination of Khanh Ly and Pham Phuong Thao showed a lot of emotions. Phuong Thao is a singer, so when writing the work, the sentences are tight, the language is suitable for the music, plus Khanh Ly's voice creates emotional resonance. Khanh Ly has a diverse voice and singing style, and can sing many genres. "I was very moved when watching the MV. At this time last year, I also made a MV filmed in Quang Tri, working with director Anh Quan. Quan was very careful with every frame, moment, and delicate in putting valuable images into the MV. This time is the same."
Director Anh Quan shared that as soon as he heard the demo, he imagined the MV reminiscent of the 81-day and night battle of Quang Tri Citadel in 1972. The MV tells the story of a veteran father taking his daughter back to the old battlefield, stopping by Hien Luong Bridge, Thach Han River, Citadel, Truong Son Cemetery... The MV "Con mai voi non song" captures impressive images: shimmering candlelight at the cemetery, the scene of releasing lanterns on Thach Han River before dawn, a girl in a white ao dai singing on a boat, a wide flying frame using a flycam...
Khanh Ly shared that she made the MV as a tribute to the heroic martyrs and hoped that today's youth would pay more attention to the nation's history. "I hope young people will re-read history and appreciate the peace they have," she said.
After the success of the MV, Khanh Ly plans to continue making music products revolving around the themes of soldiers, heroic Vietnamese mothers and historical milestones. For her, it is not only a passion for music but also a responsibility to spread gratitude and national pride.
Sao Mai Khanh Ly is a Doctor of Music, currently teaching vocal music at the Vietnam National Academy of Music. She has released many music products that have been well received by the public such as: Album "Far Away Land", "The Season of Leaves Passing Through", "Lullaby of Origin", MV "Winter is Not Cold", "Rule", "Spring Melody", "Co Dang Sang Soi", "Ly", "Ha Noi Ngay Thang Cu"...
