Another Powerball drawing has ended without a winner. The winning numbers announced on the evening of October 4 were: 9, 35, 54, 63, 64 and Powerball 1.
So, players will have a chance to win the Powerball jackpot on the evening of October 7, hoping to end an 11-week streak of no winners. As CNN joked, the dream of buying 400 private jets or a few Lamborghini Veneno Roadsters for you and 143 of your closest friends could come true after the latest Powerball drawing.
According to Powerball officials, this is the first time in Powerball history that two consecutive jackpots have reached the billion-dollar mark.
The Powerball jackpot has surpassed the $1 billion mark twice: once in January 2016, when a $1.586 billion grand prize was won by tickets purchased in California, Florida and Tennessee; and again in November 2022.

AP reported that in the October 4 drawing, only one ticket sold in Pennsylvania matched all five numbers and won $2 million.
The last Powerball jackpot winner was on July 19. At the time, the California state lottery announced on Twitter: "California has a new Powerball billionaire. The lucky ticket sold at Las Palmitas in Los Angeles is the only ticket in the country that matched all six numbers in the July 19 drawing, winning the $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot."
According to the AP , the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, making it a tough one. To put that into perspective, the odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 1 million. As for the odds of getting lucky, CNN said that people are more likely to die from fireworks or give birth to five children naturally than to win the lottery.
Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington DC, the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. A Powerball ticket costs $2. Powerball draws are held three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Players choose five numbers from a range of 1 to 69. A sixth number, called the Powerball, is chosen from a different range of 1 to 26. Players whose six numbers match the result win the jackpot. The prize is split equally if there are multiple winners.
Most Powerball winners choose to receive their prize in a lump sum. Winners are expected to pay 37% in taxes. Winners can also choose to receive their prize in installments over 29 years.
