According to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), the airstrikes were conducted in "self-defense" to "protect U.S. forces from threats posed by Iranian forces."
According to a statement from CENTCOM spokesman Captain Tim Hawkins, the targets attacked included missile launch sites and Iranian ships attempting to lay mines.
"The Central Command will continue to protect U.S. forces while exercising restraint during the ongoing ceasefire," Hawkins affirmed.
According to NBC News , the attacks reportedly took place in Bandar Abbas, a port city in southern Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz, where a major Iranian naval base is located.
There has been no announcement yet regarding any changes to the temporary ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran, which came into effect on April 8th.
Earlier, Iranian media reported hearing explosions in Bandar Abbas and the coastal area near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Mehr news agency reported that the situation in Bandar Abbas was under control and there was nothing to worry about.
Also on May 25, sources indicated that Washington and Tehran were continuing discussions aimed at ending the conflict.
Later that day, US President Donald Trump also issued a demand regarding Iran's enriched uranium, stating that the material "must either be immediately handed over to the United States for repatriation and destruction, or be destroyed on-site in the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency or equivalent."
According to sources, the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian ports remain blockaded, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz has not changed significantly, and disruptions to maritime activity continue.
