Speaking at a cabinet meeting at the White House on May 27, Trump emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is international waters and no one is allowed to control it. The American leader declared: "Oman will have to behave like all the other countries, or we will have to destroy them."
The US leader also affirmed that Washington would continue to monitor the region to ensure that international commercial ships can freely navigate this route, which carries about one-fifth of the world's oil.
During the meeting, President Trump stated that thousands of ships were waiting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, while many oil tankers had been diverted to US ports for refueling. However, he asserted that Washington was not under excessive pressure regarding energy supply, as the US is currently one of the world's leading oil and gas exporters.
The American leader also reaffirmed Washington's top priority: preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He argued that if the US had not conducted airstrikes against Iranian nuclear facilities earlier, Tehran could have quickly completed its nuclear bomb-making capabilities.
In addition, President Trump rejected the possibility of easing sanctions against Iran, while affirming that the US would continue to control Tehran's assets until Iran "behaves properly."

President Trump's remarks come amid recent reports in regional media that Iran and Oman are discussing the possibility of establishing a mechanism to coordinate maritime activity in the Strait of Hormuz following months of escalating US-Iran tensions. Some sources have mentioned the possibility of implementing a fee system for commercial vessels passing through the strait.
The Strait of Hormuz, located between Iran and Oman, connects the Persian Gulf with the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean, and is considered one of the world's most important energy shipping routes. Recent disruptions to shipping in this area have caused significant volatility in the global energy market.
