According to Al Jazeera, US Secretary of State Rubio stated on May 25: "President Trump wants to reach a good deal with Iran or there will be no deal at all. There will be some talks taking place in Qatar today, let's see if there is any significant progress. There is a lot to discuss regarding the specific wording of the initial agreement, and it could take several days."

Rubio stressed that Iran's control of the Strait of Hormuz and its imposition of fees on ships is "unacceptable." The top US diplomat said: "The Strait of Hormuz must be open one way or another. What Iran is doing there is illegal, unsustainable for the world, and unacceptable."
Secretary of State Rubio's statement came after the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed it had conducted "self-defense" attacks on southern Iran on May 25. The targets included missile launch sites and Iranian military vessels intending to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Conversely, Iranian armed forces spokesman Abolfazl Shekarchi warned that new acts of aggression "will force Tehran to deliver strong counterattacks, extending beyond the region."
