The Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 2045/QD-BGDĐT stipulating the framework for the 2024-2025 school year schedule for preschool education , general education, and continuing education.

Accordingly, the academic year timetable for 2024-2025, applicable nationwide, is as follows:

The earliest start date for the school year is one week before the official opening ceremony. For first graders, the earliest start date is two weeks before the official opening ceremony.

The opening ceremony will be held on September 5, 2024.

The first semester will end before January 18, 2025, and the program will be completed and the school year will end before May 31, 2025.

The completion of the primary school program and the awarding of lower secondary school diplomas will be considered before June 30, 2025.

Complete the enrollment process for entry-level classes before July 31, 2025.

The 2025 high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place on June 26th and 27th.

Other national-level examinations are organized according to the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Regarding the principles for developing the school year timetable in localities, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates: The school year timetable in localities must ensure 35 weeks of actual learning (18 weeks in the first semester and 17 weeks in the second semester). The school year timetable must be consistent with the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.

Public holidays are observed according to the Labor Code and annual guiding documents. Teachers' annual leave is taken during the summer break or may be arranged intermittently at other times of the year to suit the specific characteristics and annual school year schedule of the locality.

The school year timetable needs to ensure consistency across all educational levels within a given residential area, especially in multi-level schools.

Regarding implementation responsibilities, the Chairman of the People's Committee of the province or centrally-administered city shall decide: The school year schedule for preschool, general education, and continuing education shall be in accordance with the local reality. The school year may start earlier and be extended by no more than 15 days to ensure the implementation and completion of the preschool, general education, and continuing education programs in cases of natural disasters or epidemics; for any special circumstances, a report shall be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training decides to suspend classes for students in cases of extreme weather conditions or natural disasters and arranges for make-up classes; ensuring teachers' time off during the school year. A report to the Ministry of Education and Training on: the preparation for the school year and the organization of the opening ceremony for the 2024-2025 school year must be submitted before September 10, 2024; a summary of the implementation of key tasks and solutions for the 2024-2025 school year and the results of achieving the emulation criteria, and a proposal for awarding commendations for the school year must be submitted before June 25, 2025.
