Apple's 2027 is going to be interesting.

In a Power On report on Bloomberg , analyst Mark Gurman said Apple plans to launch multiple devices in 2027, including several new product categories.

Amid a lack of attention from recent devices, Apple's plan is to "refresh" some important devices, including the 20th anniversary iPhone version.

Devices to look forward to in 2027

Bloomberg 's writer describes Apple's product launch schedule as worth waiting for in 2027. That is also the 20th anniversary of the launch of the first iPhone.

The first notable device is the foldable iPhone. Based on rumors, the product will have a book-shaped folding design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. However, the highlight of the device comes from new technology, making the fold almost invisible.

Next, an iPhone model that is “mostly made of glass, curved, and has no notch” could be released in late 2027. According to Gurman, this device marks the 10th anniversary of the iPhone X, which started the trend of thin-bezel iPhones.

Users can also look forward to Apple's first smart glasses. The device will look similar to the Meta Ray-Ban, support smart features but not be as bulky as the Vision Pro.

Gurman previously said Apple plans to produce dedicated chips for smart glasses. The product could integrate the Apple Intelligence platform, using cameras to analyze the surrounding space.

Apple is likely to introduce AirPods and an Apple Watch with a built-in camera in 2027. Finally, Apple may introduce a robot in the form of a desk arm that acts as an AI assistant.

In addition to hardware, Apple plans to deploy new processors for its AI servers by 2027, which will enhance the experience of using Apple Intelligence. The company may also complete a new version of Siri, integrating a language model to converse naturally with users.

Apple faces many difficulties

According to Gurman, Apple has introduced many devices in recent years, from the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, and Mac computers. However, users rarely see truly attractive products.

The Vision Pro was a groundbreaking piece of hardware, but it wasn’t well received. Its future was questioned as Apple pivoted to smart glasses with a more traditional design.

Next, the iPhone 16 is still one of the best smartphones on the market, but not too different from its predecessor. Meanwhile, Mac computers are equipped with top-notch processors, but the hardware and appearance have changed little.

The lack of innovation has hit Apple hard. iPhone sales are down from two years ago, according to Gurman. Estimates also show Apple Watch revenue falling 14% last year. Meanwhile, Apple’s hardware revenue is only just starting to grow again after a period of stagnation.

“Apple clearly needs something bigger and bolder going forward. But the company’s pace of innovation has slowed.

Whether it's because of scale, inertia, or a cumbersome development process, things have changed because the innovation cycle, launching a new product category every few years, is no longer relevant," the Bloomberg writer emphasized.

Apple is slowing down in an ever more competitive market. Some Chinese rivals such as Huawei and Xiaomi are attracting attention with their foldable smartphones.

Legal troubles with the government and allegations of antitrust violations have also weighed on the company's business. Even profit margins are being threatened by tariffs.

Apple's Stagnation Period

Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services, summed it up well. In his testimony at Google’s antitrust trial, he recalled Silicon Valley nearly 40 years ago.

“The most successful companies of the time are either no longer around, or they’re smaller and less relevant,” Cue said. That happens when technology changes so frequently that new companies can take over the top spot.

“I worry about this for Apple. We’re very successful, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to be around in 10 or 20 years. People will still need toothpaste in 20 or 40 years, but you might not need an iPhone in 10 years, which is crazy,” Cue added.

Cue may be defending the deal between Apple and Google to make Google Search the default search engine on iPhones. But his point is still valid in the larger context. If Apple fails to innovate and falls behind, the company could easily be overtaken by its competitors.

“Apple is not destined to be the next BlackBerry, Nokia or Compaq. The company has the resources to develop, acquire startups to create technological breakthroughs... However, Apple is definitely in a period of stagnation,” Gurman emphasized.
