In a Bloomberg Power On report, analyst Mark Gurman stated that Apple plans to launch several devices in 2027, including a number of new product categories.

Amidst a backdrop of recent devices failing to attract much attention, Apple plans to "refresh" some key devices, including a 20th-anniversary iPhone edition.

Devices worth anticipating in 2027

A writer from Bloomberg describes Apple's 2027 product launch schedule as highly anticipated. It also marks the 20th anniversary of the first iPhone's release.

The first noteworthy device is the foldable iPhone. Based on rumors, the product will have a book-like folding design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold. However, the device's highlight comes from new technology that makes the crease almost invisible.

Next, an iPhone model "almost entirely made of glass, curved, and with a notch-less display" could be unveiled in late 2027. According to Gurman, this device would mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone X, the product that started the trend of thin-bezel iPhones.

Users can also expect Apple's first smart glasses. The device has a similar appearance to the Meta Ray-Ban, supports smart features, but isn't as bulky as the Vision Pro.

Previously, Gurman stated that Apple plans to produce dedicated chips for smart glasses. The product could integrate the Apple Intelligence platform, using cameras to analyze the surrounding environment.

Apple is likely to unveil AirPods and an Apple Watch with integrated cameras in 2027. Finally, Apple may introduce robots in the form of desktop robotic arms, acting as AI assistants.

Beyond hardware, Apple plans to deploy new processing chips for its AI servers by 2027, enhancing the user experience with Apple Intelligence. The company may also finalize a new version of Siri, integrating language models for more natural-sounding conversations with users.

Apple faces many challenges.

According to Gurman, Apple has introduced many devices in recent years, from the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, and Mac computers. However, users rarely see a truly compelling product.

Vision Pro was a groundbreaking hardware device, but it wasn't well-received. The product's future is now in question as Apple shifts its focus to smart glasses with more traditional designs.

Next, the iPhone 16 remains one of the best smartphones on the market, but it's not drastically different from its predecessor. Meanwhile, Mac computers feature top-of-the-line processors, but the hardware and appearance have changed little.

The lack of innovation has hit Apple hard. According to Gurman, iPhone sales have fallen to levels lower than two years ago. Estimates also show Apple Watch revenue down 14% last year. Meanwhile, Apple's hardware revenue has only recently started to recover after a period of stagnation.

"Apple clearly needs something bigger and bolder in the future. However, the company's pace of innovation is slower."

Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Services, summed up the situation quite well. In his testimony before the court at Google's antitrust trial, he recalled Silicon Valley nearly 40 years ago.

“The most successful companies at the time either no longer exist, or have become smaller and less influential,” Cue said. This happens as technology changes frequently, creating opportunities for new businesses to replace the leaders.

“I’m worried about this for Apple. We’re very successful, but that doesn’t mean we’ll survive for the next 10-20 years. People will still need toothpaste in 20 or 40 years, but you might not need an iPhone in 10 years, that’s crazy,” Cue added.

Cue's viewpoint may be aimed at defending the agreement between Apple and Google regarding the default search engine on iPhones. However, his assessment remains valid when considering the larger context. If Apple fails to innovate and falls behind, the company could easily be overtaken by its competitors.

“Apple’s fate won’t be the next BlackBerry, Nokia, or Compaq. The company has the resources to develop and acquire startups to create technological breakthroughs… However, Apple is definitely in a period of stagnation,” Gurman emphasized.
