From 2017 to now, the province has issued many thematic resolutions, programs and plans to promote the advantages of forestry with a cross-cutting view: Taking the management, protection, development of forests and people's health as the top goals. Sustainable forestry development goes hand in hand with planting, tending and protecting watershed forests, protecting the environment, preventing and combating natural disasters, responding to climate change, harmonizing socio-economic development goals, ensuring security and safety, conserving biodiversity, and gradually improving forest cover, value of forest environmental services and raising incomes for people.
Currently, the province has over 464.000 hectares of forested land; 103.000 hectares of forests have been assigned to organizations, families, individuals and communities for management. In order to promote advantages in forestry, the Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution 16 on sustainable forestry development, period 2021 - 2025; Provincial People's Council issued Resolution 29 on policies to encourage the development of commodity agricultural production. In which, support is 5 million VND/ha for afforestation with good seedlings (acacia trees), 8 million VND/ha for afforestation with large timber trees. Not only that, implementing Plan 85 on breakthroughs in economic afforestation under the policy of the Provincial People's Council, the forestry sector has made a breakthrough in intensive economic afforestation using good seedlings, developing the plantation economy with a new mindset, making forestry the main occupation in the potential region. For the highland districts, mainly Sa Moc, Thong, Tong too su, Lat trees are grown; For lowland districts, focus on planting economic forests with trees such as Acacia, Cinnamon, Anise, Xoan, Mo, Bo De...

Only from 2017 until now, the province has planted more than 32.200 hectares of concentrated forest; using good varieties, accounting for 34,6% of the total planted forest area. In which, the state supports the new planting of more than 6.700 ha, the remaining area is planted by people and 3 forestry companies after exploitation. Up to now, the whole province has 9.162,47 hectares of forests with sustainable forest certificates (FSCs), concentrated in two districts of Bac Quang (2 ha), Vi Xuyen (8.186,6 ha). Thereby, forming a sustainable material area according to the standards of forest management and protection of the World Forest Board; opening up great opportunities for forest growers to export timber to the international market and enjoy 975,87-10% higher economic value than forests without FSC Certificate. On the other hand, the whole province has mobilized nearly 15 billion VND to perform the task of forest management, protection and development; at the same time, attracting 1.200 non-budget projects to support investment in the forestry sector. On this basis, many projects have been implemented, contributing to a breakthrough in forestry production such as: High-tech economic afforestation and the establishment of a chain link model in forestry production associated with environmental protection in Quang Binh and Xin Man districts; nurseries and grows medicinal plants Ngoc Linh Ginseng under the forest canopy of Vi Xuyen district; Link planting, processing and consumption of wood in Quang Binh district...
In parallel with planting, tending and protecting forests; Our province's wood processing industry has gradually shifted from a traditional small-scale to a commodity production oriented with investment and support from the State; Applying science, technology and advanced techniques, investing in machinery to support production, has resulted in many high-quality wood-processed products. Up to now, the whole province has 190 wood processing establishments and wood products, most concentrated in Bac Quang, Quang Binh and Vi Xuyen districts. The main products include: Plywood, wood pellets, peeled wood, household wood ... In the period of 2018 - 2022, the total export value of forest products (mainly peeled boards) reached more than 30,4 million USD. Typically, there are Thai Hoang Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company, Nam Quang Industrial Complex (Bac Quang) producing nearly 27.000 m3 of plywood per year with a total sales revenue of nearly VND 250 billion; export turnover accounted for 84%. The enterprise has well performed its tax obligations to the State; create more jobs for local workers.
According to experts, the important decisions of the Party Committee and provincial government have created momentum to promote sustainable forestry development. Deforestation and encroachment on natural forests for afforestation are basically controlled; protected forest area is strictly managed and protected; The planning, protection and development of forests was initially synchronized, in line with the land use planning and socio-economic development planning of the province. The entire existing natural forest area is strictly managed and protected, contributing to increasing the province's forest cover from 55,57% (in 2017) to 58,58% at the present time. The average production value of the forestry sector is more than 1.500 billion VND/year, accounting for 10 - 11% of the structure of the agricultural, forestry and fishery sector.
With the viewpoint: "Protecting people's health is the top goal", "Do not trade environment for economic growth"; Currently, our province continues to mobilize the participation of both the political system and the people in sustainable forestry development, synchronously implementing solutions on: Strengthening state management, improving forest economic value, creating sustainable livelihoods for people; mobilize resources for sustainable forest protection and development; apply science and technology to forest management, protection and development and increase the economic value of forestry. Striving to 2025: Raise the forest cover rate to 60%; increasing the total forest area granted FSC Certificate to 15.600 ha; strive for the average productivity of planted forests to reach 80 - 120 m3/ha/cycle of 7 years; forestry production value reached 20% in the value structure of the group of agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors.
