Although the launch is still almost a year away, the first leaks about the iPhone 18 Pro Max have begun to appear, revealing a series of major upgrades to the chip, camera, and design.
According to sources, Apple will introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max series in September 2026, while the standard version may launch later, expected in spring 2027. After the iPhone 17 Pro Max received a design refresh, Apple may continue to push for improvements in the device's appearance in the next generation.
The most notable highlight is the A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process. Compared to the A19 chip in the iPhone 17, the A20 is rumored to offer 15% faster speeds and up to 30% better power efficiency. As a result, the device promises to run cooler and have longer battery life.
Additionally, some rumors suggest that Apple is developing the C2 5G modem, the successor to the C1 modem in the iPhone 16, in order to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm. The new modem is expected to improve connection speeds, network stability, and power consumption.
Another possible change is the removal of the camera control button, which was introduced on the iPhone 16. According to reports, this feature didn't appeal to many users and wasn't worth the production cost.
In terms of display, the iPhone 18 Pro Max may use a new generation LTPO+ screen, offering a smoother scrolling experience and better battery life. Some sources also suggest that Apple may introduce a partially transparent back, revealing the metal frame and vapor chamber cooling system, creating a futuristic aesthetic.
Notably, the iPhone manufacturer may completely eliminate the Dynamic Island feature, replacing it with a smaller punch-hole design or under-display Face ID. Analyst Ross Young predicts this feature will be realized in 2026, resulting in a seamless screen and optimized display space.
Finally, the iPhone 18 Pro could be equipped with a variable aperture lens, allowing users better control over the amount of light and depth of field. This is a major step forward for mobile photography.
If these leaks are accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro Max promises to be a comprehensive upgrade, focusing on performance, versatile photography capabilities, and a more premium design experience.
