In Truong Sa today, residential buildings, offices, schools, and medical stations are well-built and clean; trees are planted, cared for, and thriving. In particular, solar power systems have been installed on almost all rooftops on the islands and islets. Wind turbines have also been installed along the island embankments or on the rooftops of buildings and offices.

Mr. Vu Manh Hai, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Tu Tay Island Commune, said that previously, the island mainly relied on electricity from gasoline and diesel generators, which were both noisy and environmentally polluting. Furthermore, the limited electricity usage time, only 2 to 3 hours per day, made daily life difficult for the military and civilians on the island. In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and State, and the support of units, businesses, and people nationwide, the island has received investment in solar and wind power systems, significantly improving the lives of the military and civilians. Most residential buildings and offices on the island are equipped with rooftop solar panels, especially the school area, which is fully utilized to provide electricity for teaching and learning. With these two clean energy sources, daily needs are basically met, making life on the island much more convenient than before.
Mr. Pham Quoc Sang (Truong Sa town) shared: “Thanks to the wind and solar power systems, the living conditions of the soldiers and civilians on the island are getting better and better. Although far from the mainland, all households here are fully equipped with appliances such as refrigerators, electric fans, lighting, televisions, sound systems… to meet their daily needs.”

In the Spratly Islands, with year-round sunshine and wind, investing in wind and solar power systems is quite suitable and highly effective. Captain Nguyen Xuan Hoang, Political Officer of Co Lin Island, said that since the island was equipped with and put into use the solar and wind power systems, the lives of officers and soldiers have improved significantly. With a stable power supply, the island has freezers to preserve food and vegetables for longer periods, rice is cooked using electric rice cookers, and they can use fans and watch large-screen TVs to keep up with domestic and international news. In particular, thanks to the stable power supply, the island has also been equipped with a seawater desalination system, ensuring a clean water supply for daily life. According to Captain Pham Hoang Buu, Commander of Len Dao Island, the wind power and solar panel system on the island can generate more than 500 kW of electricity per day, and the batteries can store electricity for up to 5 days without needing to be recharged.

In the harsh weather conditions of sun, wind, storms, and sea spray in the Truong Sa archipelago, the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the solar power system are always given constant attention. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tuong Tin, Commander of Da Tay Island, said: “Every day, in addition to training, combat readiness, and agricultural production, each officer, soldier, and civilian is always conscious and responsible for carefully maintaining every screw and wire connection to prevent equipment from rusting due to the corrosive effects of sea spray on the electrical system. At the same time, the island has established and maintains a team to perform regular maintenance, inspection, and repair whenever the electrical system malfunctions, helping to extend the lifespan of the solar power system and maintain a continuous power supply for the daily life, training, and combat of the military and civilians on the island.”
Returning to the mainland after bidding farewell to Truong Sa, viewed from the sea, the twinkling lights from clean energy sources amidst the ocean further enhance the beauty of the islands and islets. Thanks to clean energy, the strength and determination of the soldiers and people on the islands have been further strengthened, enabling them to steadfastly protect the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland's seas and islands.
