Excitement at the pool
With summer approaching, many families enroll their children in swimming lessons to equip them with essential skills. Meeting new friends and splashing around freely in the cool water makes children happy and increasingly fond of swimming.
At the swimming class at Quy Nhon Stadium, coached by the provincial swimming team, Nguyen Dinh Nhat Nam, approximately 60 children aged 8-15 are enrolled, learning basic skills such as: breaststroke, treading water, floating, and handling situations in deep water…

Witnessing his daughter enthusiastically practicing in Mr. Nam's class, Mr. Le Thanh Tung, the parent of Le Quynh Nhu (born in 2011, residing in Thi Nai Ward, Quy Nhon City), revealed that his daughter started learning to swim from a basic level last summer. However, because she loves the sport, she has continued to learn at an advanced level. Understanding the benefits of swimming, the parents sought out and enrolled their child in swimming courses through the school and talent classes. Mr. Ho Ngoc Cuong (lecturer in the Faculty of Physical Education - National Defense Education, Quy Nhon University) said that the classes he teaches alone have approximately 270 students, mostly aged 6-9.
Little student Luong Ngoc Khanh Ngan (born in 2017, residing in Dong Da ward, Quy Nhon city) happily high-fives her teacher Ho Ngoc Cuong after completing a test on treading water. |
For the children, what attracts them to water sports , besides learning to swim, is the joy of it all. Playing and competing in swimming races together, Vo Ke Khoa (born in 2014, residing in Ghenh Rang Ward, Quy Nhon City) and his two cousins, Le Nguyen Hoai Dan (born in 2013, residing in Nguyen Van Cu Ward) and Nguyen Thi Gia Nhi (born in 2014, residing in Nguyen Van Cu Ward), were very excited.
Khoa said: “Swimming is perfect for summer weather, so we see it as both exercise and a way to beat the heat. Besides, the three of us get to play together and meet new friends after school.”

That joy becomes even more meaningful for disadvantaged children when they participate in free swimming lessons. At the most recent class, organized by the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination with the Quy Nhon City Youth Union and Children's Council at Au Co Primary School (in Bui Thi Xuan Ward, Quy Nhon City) from June 30th to the present, 30 students in the ward have had two weeks of exciting experiences. Sharing her thoughts after the training session, Vo Thanh Binh (born in 2013, in Bui Thi Xuan Ward) said that she lost her father at a young age and lives with her mother and older sister. Her mother is a garment worker, but her income has decreased for more than half a year, so she has to work extra to support her two children. With difficult circumstances, her mother struggles to provide food and education, let alone allow Binh to learn to swim.
Thanks to his experience teaching children to swim, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam (from Phuoc Hung commune, Tuy Phuoc district) has been able to introduce his child to water from an early age. |
“I learned about this class through my teachers at school, and I immediately registered because I’ve liked this subject for a long time but didn’t dare ask my mother to let me take classes. When I got to class, I tried my best. My greatest joy was being praised by the teachers for performing the movements correctly,” Binh said happily.
