Below is information about some specializations within the Information Technology field, which candidates can refer to in order to make a suitable choice.
Programmer
Programmers or IT professionals are people who create programs, write code, and develop programs. Their main job is to build code and develop it into software programs for computers or applications for smartphones.
For those without experience, the average salary for interns and fresh graduates usually doesn't exceed 5-10 million VND/month. However, if you've done internships while still in school, your salary after graduation can reach 20 million VND/month, or even more.
If you are passionate about becoming a programmer, you can check the admission information for Information Technology programs at some universities such as: Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics .
Computer Science
Computer science is known as the field of study that focuses on the theoretical foundations of information, computation, and their applications in computer systems. It utilizes algorithms to solve problems, thereby creating effective ways to communicate and manage information.
Computer science students receive training in a wide range of specialized subjects, including programming languages, algorithms, and software design and development.
Currently, many universities offer Computer Science programs, such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
Software technology
Software engineering majors primarily teach skills and knowledge related to the software development process. Software engineering can also involve the study and investigation of computers, as well as knowledge and skills related to computers.
To study this major, in addition to self-learning ability, creative thinking skills, and passion, students need to be adaptable, proactive, and able to work in teams.
In Vietnam, the average starting salary for a newly graduated Software Engineering student with no experience is around 7 million VND per month. Those with 1-2 years of experience can easily earn over 20 million VND.
If you wish to pursue this major, you can refer to the admission information of some universities such as: Vietnam Maritime University, FPT University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Da Nang University of Science and Technology, etc.
Information security
Information security is a field responsible for protecting information systems and data from virus and malware attacks, and preventing illegal access, modification, dissemination, and destruction of data, ensuring that information systems function correctly, serve the intended users accurately and reliably.
Although approximately 2,000 students graduate in this field each year, very few meet the requirements of employers. Therefore, the field of Information Security still suffers from a shortage of personnel, resulting in high job opportunities for students studying this area.
The average salary for IT professionals with 1-3 years of experience ranges from 15-40 million VND per person per month. Meanwhile, fresh graduates earn an average of 8-15 million VND per person per month.
To pursue a career in Information Security, candidates can study at several universities such as: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, FPT University, Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City),...
Information systems
When pursuing a major in Information Systems, you will learn how to build, operate, and deploy system software. Students will be equipped with knowledge related to the fundamentals of information systems, database analysis and management. They will learn to exploit important data types, practice web application development, and project management.
Currently, the Information Systems major at many major universities uses admission combinations such as A00, A01, D01, D07, and D90.
Most universities offering Information Technology programs also have a specialization in Information Systems. You can refer to the admission information of some top universities such as: University of Technology (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, University of Information Technology (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), Can Tho University of Technology.
