Neuralink will test brain implants and robotic arms

(CLO) On November 25, Elon Musk's brain technology company Neuralink said it had been approved to conduct research using brain implants and robotic arms in a new trial.

Neuralink is conducting PRIME research to test the early efficacy of brain tissue implants and robotic arms, to help quadriplegic patients control external devices with just their thoughts.

Neuralink said it plans to recruit participants for the feasibility study from its ongoing PRIME trial.

Last week, the company received approval from Health Canada to conduct a Canadian trial of its device. Neurosurgeons in Canada, working with the company, were approved to enroll six paralyzed patients in the study.

In the US, Neuralink has implanted the device in two patients. The first patient was able to play video games, browse the web, post on social media and move the cursor on his laptop.

The company said its device worked well on a second test patient, who used it to play video games and learn how to design 3D objects.
