New York lights up crystal ball to welcome 2025

On New Year's Eve, more than 1 million people gather in Times Square in New York City, USA, waiting for the countdown and watching the crystal ball slowly descend in the 60 seconds before the new year begins.

The tradition of lowering the crystal ball to welcome the New Year in the United States began in 1907. The New Year's Eve celebration in Times Square is broadcast around the world by American television channels and watched by millions of people every year.
