On October 14, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces had taken control of the village of Levadne, located nearly 110 km east of the city of Zaporizhzhia, and had also secured better positions in the area.
Ukrainian officials have yet to comment on Russia's capture of Levadne. They previously noted that Russia was massing troops there and conducting localized attacks over the weekend.
The village of Levadne, in the Zaporizhzhia region, was captured by Russian forces early in the conflict in 2022, but was recaptured by Ukraine in a counteroffensive in the summer of 2023.

Ukrainian officials are seeking to show the West that they are not giving up the fight against their much stronger adversary. An incursion into the Russian border region of Kursk has brought Ukrainian troops into Russian territory for more than two months.
The Ukrainian army is also trying to halt Ukraine's advance on the eastern front, particularly in the Donetsk region. However, Russia has made significant progress recently, successively gaining control of strategic enemy positions.
