The Kremlin's statement came after a five-hour meeting on December 3 in Moscow between Putin and US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said it would be incorrect to suggest that Mr Putin had rejected the US proposal, as this meeting was only the first direct exchange of the set of peace proposals.
Partial acceptance and rejection are normal in the negotiation process, he said. However, a Kremlin aide said “no compromise has been found yet.”

Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said the talks between Putin and the US delegation revolved around documents related to the US proposal, with the central topic being the territorial issue. He did not give details about the peace plan the US is promoting.
Meanwhile, according to the Kyiv Post, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels, but the meeting was canceled. Mr. Zelenskyy was scheduled to discuss with the US delegation after their visit to Moscow, but the plan changed and Mr. Zelenskyy left Brussels to return to Ukraine.
After the meeting at the Kremlin, the US side informed Russia that the delegation would fly directly back to the US, without stopping in Kiev.
