(Dan Tri) - The Kremlin said on September 11 that it "really did not like" the way President Vladimir Putin's name was mentioned in the debate between the two US presidential candidates.

In the statement, the Kremlin also called on US Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and rival Donald Trump to stop dragging the Russian leader into their political battle. Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that although Moscow did not directly follow the debate between the two candidates, it followed the news reports about it. "Of course, we noticed that both candidates mentioned our president, mentioned our country," Peskov said. He also stated: "Of course, the position here is quite clear - the United States in general, regardless of the party of the candidates - maintains a negative, unfriendly attitude towards our country." The Kremlin spokesman continued to state that: "The name of President Putin is used as one of the tools in the domestic political struggle in the United States. We really, really do not like that...". During the debate, Trump and Harris had heated arguments on a number of issues, including President Putin and the war in Ukraine. Harris said that if Trump had remained president, Russia would have sent troops to Kiev. Trump, meanwhile, said it was in America's best interests to "end this war and leave it at that," without saying whether he wanted Ukraine to win. Former President Trump repeated his assertion that if elected, he would resolve the conflict before taking office. Trump did not say how he would do that. He also criticized President Joe Biden for not speaking by phone with his counterpart Putin in the past two years. Responding to a question on the issue, spokesman Peskov said a phone call would not help end the conflict. He said it was necessary for the United States to "abandon the policy of using Ukraine as disposable material in an attempt to suppress everything related to Russia."
