Recently, Director of the Department of Physical Training and Sports - Mr. Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet chaired a working session with the Department of High Performance Sports and the Department of Sports for All to review the progress of preparations for participating in two important upcoming sporting events: SEA Games 33 and the 2025 Asian Youth Games .
In the context of limited time, the completion of the plan to participate in regional and continental sports events is being urgently implemented. One of the key requirements set by the leaders of the Department of Physical Education and Sports is to quickly complete the list of delegation members, clearly identify the participating sports and sub-sports, the number of athletes, coaches, officials, etc. in order to proactively organize and effectively coordinate resources.
According to the report of the Head of the High Performance Sports Department - Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, the preparation plans for each Games are being implemented on schedule. Specifically, at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, taking place from October 19 to 31 in China, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is expected to send 116 members to participate, competing in 12 out of 24 sports and sub-sports of the Games.
For the 33rd SEA Games, held from December 9 to 31 in Thailand, the Vietnamese Sports Delegation is expected to have 971 members, of which 158 will participate with socialized funding. The delegation will compete in 30 sports and sub-sports, many of which are identified as key events with the potential to achieve high results.
To improve training efficiency and optimize performance, the competitions are divided into 3 groups:
Group 1: Traditional strengths, identified as key to winning gold medals such as: Athletics, Football, Swimming, Shooting, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Karate, Weightlifting, Fencing, Canoeing, Traditional Rowing, Gymnastics, Boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, Petanque, Wushu, Muay, Rowing, Cycling, Chess, Archery, Pencak Silat, Table Tennis, Aerobic Gymnastics, Triathlon, Indoor Volleyball, Golf, Handball, 3x3 Basketball, Sepak Takraw...
Group 2: Sports with the potential to compete for silver or bronze medals such as: Tennis, Basketball 5x5, Diving, Artistic Gymnastics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Sailing, Bowling, Roller…
Group 3: Socialized sports, mainly competing to gain international competition experience including: Billiards, Figure skating, E-sports, Baseball - softball, Mixed martial arts (MMA)...
Also at the meeting, Head of Sports for Everyone Department - Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Anh reported on the preparation work of 2 sports under the management of the department to participate in SEA Games 33: Electronic Sports (E-Sport) and Mountaineering.
In addition, Tug of War is a performance event. Of which, E-Sports is expected to participate in 6 events with 38 athletes. Meanwhile, in the Mountaineering event, we have received registration information from Ho Chi Minh City to contribute 1 coach and 5 athletes. Both of these events will be funded by social sources. Currently, the department has completed the procedures for the teams.
Along with grouping, training and improving the quality of coaching are being promoted both domestically and internationally. Key teams are fully invested in from expertise, logistics, nutrition, to training equipment, medical care and injury recovery.
Key training locations and international cooperation with Korea, Japan, China, Hungary, etc. are being implemented to create optimal conditions for athletes to accumulate physical strength, tactics and competition experience.
According to Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh, all teams are currently urgently completing their competition and training plans, aiming to build the strongest force, ready to compete in the two major playgrounds at the end of the year. Thorough preparation and high determination are important premises for Vietnamese sports to continue to affirm their position in the region and reach the continental level.
